Faieta Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Lynn, Mass., freshman collects first weekly award after 2-0 week for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (January 30, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman forward Tori Faieta (Lynn, Mass./Saint Mary's) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week for women's basketball by the league office this afternoon.

Faieta, who earns the weekly award for the first time, joins classmate and fellow North Shore product Amy Pelletier (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) as NE-10 Rookie of the Week selections for Stonehill this season. Faieta helped lead the Skyhawks to a 2-0 week as she averaged 12 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocked shots in 24.5 minutes per game. She made 52.6-percent (10-for-19) of her shots from the field for the week.

Faieta totaled 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, a season-best eight rebounds, a season-high matching four blocked shots and three assists in Wednesday's 76-64 victory at Adelphi University. She contributed 11 points, seven boards, two assists and a blocked shot in Saturday's 48-47 upset of Pace University, among teams receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II poll.

Faieta has played all 19 games, starting 11, in her freshman season at Stonehill and is averaging 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and a team-high 1.3 blocked shots (3rd NE-10) in 20 minutes per game, shooting 48.6-percent (70-144) from the field. In 15 NE-10 games (nine starts), she is averaging 9.4 points on 49.2-percent (60-122) shooting, with 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocked shots (2nd) in 20.8 minutes. Faieta scored a season-high 15 points to go with four rebounds at Franklin Pierce University on November 22.

Stonehill (10-9, 6-9 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow night when it hosts Franklin Pierce at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks close out the week at Merrimack College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
