Vachon named NE-10 Player of the Week
Bennett tabbed NE-10 Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (September 13, 2010) – Two members of the Stonehill College football team received weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference office this afternoon. Senior running back Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass./Blair Academy) was named the NE-10's Player of the week, while freshman defensive back Tim Bennett (Fillmore, Calif./Saint Bonaventure) was tabbed the NE-10's Rookie of the Week.

Vachon earns Player of the Week honors for the first time this season (second career) after leading the Stonehill offense in Friday's 41-33 victory over Pace University in a non-conference matchup. He recorded his fifth-straight 100-plus yard performance as he carried the ball 19 times for 191 yards and three second half touchdowns, with 158 of his rushing yards coming in the second half as the Skyhawks built on a 10-6 halftime lead. Vachon averaged 10.1 yards per carry and also caught one pass for 16 yards to finish with 207 all-purpose yards on the night.

Vachon opened the second half by taking the opening play from scrimmage and racing 44-yards for a touchdown, breaking the program's career record for rushing touchdowns with the 17th of his career, surpassing the previous record of 16 set by Rob Olivar from 2000-03. Vachon later capped a seven play, 80-yard drive on the Skyhawks next possession with a ten-yard scoring run and added an 11-yard touchdown rush to put Stonehill up 31-13 a minute and a half into the fourth quarter.

Bennett

Vachon, a two-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection, also moved into second place on Stonehill's career rushing list with 2,246 career yards and second all-time for touchdowns scored with 24 after his three on Friday night. He already holds the program's career record for all-purpose yards with 3,645. He sits just two touchdowns shy of Olivar's career record of 26 touchdowns and 455 yards shy of Tyrone Jefferson's career record of 2,701 yards.

Vachon leads the NE-10 and is ranked fourth nationally, averaging 172.0 yards per game with 344 total yards rushing through the first two weeks of the season. His 12.0 points per game is good for third among NE-10 scoring leaders as are his 182.0 all-purpose yards per game. He ranks tenth in total offense with 172.0 yards per game and is averaging 8.2 yards per carry.

Bennett collects Rookie of the Week honors for the first time in just his second collegiate week. He contributed four solo tackles and a pass breakup on the defensive side of the ball for Stonehill on Friday night. His breakup came on fourth and two for Pace at the Skyhawks 15 with a minute left in the fourth quarter to seal the win. It marked the first time all night Stonehill had stopped the Setters on fourth down, ending a string of six-straight conversions.

Bennett, who has played each of the first two weeks of the season, picked up his first four tackles of the season on Friday night as well as his first breakup.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 NE-10), winners of five-straight dating back to last season for the first time since 1996, is back in action on Saturday when it opens its Northeast-10 schedule at American International College at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home the following week to host Merrimack College on Friday, September 24, at 7 p.m.
