EASTON, Massachusetts (June 16, 2021) – The Stonehill College volleyball team saw recent graduate Sophia Poveda and junior Lauren Wilke selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® first team in District I, as selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in the East Region. Poveda and Wilke are now eligible for Academic All-America® honors, selected by CoSIDA's Academic All-America® committee, as well as voters from Division II, to be announced in early July.

Poveda, who has earned a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average and a 3.79 GPA during the spring semester and while majoring in economics and earning minors in political science and business, and Wilke, who averages a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average with a 3.76 GPA during the spring semester, were two of six Northeast-10 Conference representatives to be named to the first team. Rachel Dunlavy '19 was the most recent Skyhawk to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District® first team honors, as she earned it in 2018 and 2019, bring the programs' total now to five.

Poveda, most recently, was as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar third team recipient, her third-career honor. Poveda was a peer mentor at Stonehill with the Moreau Honors Program meeting and communicating with assigned incoming freshmen to assist with the college transition and a subject tutor with Stonehill's Center for Writing and Academic Achievement in Spanish, economics, political science, and business courses. Poveda also coached for the 14-under Mass Premier Volleyball Club team during her time at Stonehill.

In 2019, Poveda was named to the NE10 All-Conference first team, for her first conference honor. She has also been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, and Dean's list seven semesters. Poveda was selected as the 2021 Stonehill Edward E. Martin Women's Senior Scholar-Athlete Award winner. She was inducted into the Lambda Epsilon Sigma and Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Societies and was selected to give the 2021 class address at Commencement this year.

The two-year captain totaled 20 double-doubles in her career, earning 12 of them in 2019. She saw career highs in five categories during her junior year including kills (274), kills per set (2.88), hitting percentage (.221), digs (249), and digs per set (2.62). In the NE10, she finished ranked seventh in kills per set, 11th in total kills, 27th in hitting percentage, 30th in total digs, and 34th in digs per set. Poveda is a 2017 graduate of Westminster Christian School in Miami, Florida, where she played basketball and volleyball. The junior also played club volleyball for the Miami Elite.

Wilke, who has earned an average grade-point average of 3.71 and 3.76 in the spring semester while studying criminology and minoring in sociology, also was named to the All-District first team for the first time.

The junior setter has tallied 16 double-doubles in her career, including registering a career best 65 assists in a 3-2 win over Franklin Pierce University this year. As a freshman, she was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team, as she finished fourth in the Conference averaging 9.71 assists per set. Wilke was named NE10 Rookie and Setter of the Week in early September and then was tabbed at Rookie of the Week a little later in the month. Academically, Wilke was named to the Athletic Director's and NE10 Academic Honor Rolls. Wilke earned the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award and has been named to the Dean's List six times. At the end of this semester, Wilke was selected for the Edwin H. Sutherland Criminology Honor Society at Stonehill.

The two Skyhawks assisted the Skyhawks to a 17-10 overall mark and 9-4 in the NE10 in 2019 as they made their second appearance in three years in the semifinal round of the NE10 Tournament after finishing second in regular season play. These records were the best marks for the Skyhawks since 2014 and they finished eighth in the NCAA East Region.
