Thornton Earns NE-10 Accolades for Fourth Straight Week

Dorchester, Mass. freshman named Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week.

EASTON, Mass. (February 12, 2013) – Freshman Adrienne Thornton (Dorchester, Mass./John D. O'Bryant) of the Stonehill College women's track and field team received two weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference on Tuesday.

Thornton collected NE-10 Field Rookie of the Week and Field Athlete of the Week awards from the conference. This is Thornton's first Field Athlete of the Week honor, but she takes home Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth consecutive week and fifth overall.

The freshman thrower registered a runner-up performance in the weight throw event Monday night at the Tufts Cupid Challenge. Thornton launched a 51-05.75 throw that fell just 11 inches short of her own school record measurement of 52-05.5. The second place finish was Thornton's fourth top-three finish of the season.

Stonehill opens its championship season this Saturday when it competes at the NE-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at 4 p.m.
