Skyhawks finish behind NE-10 rival UMass Lowell, boast four event winners
WALTHAM, Mass. (December 7, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team turned in a second place finish at the Reggie Poyau Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University, at Gosman Athletic Center tonight.
Stonehill compiled 86 points, trailing just rival UMass Lowell with 223 points. Bentley University and Keene State College tied for third with 59 points.
Sophomore Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) won the 600-meter run with a school-record time of 1:37.46. She broke the previous record of 1:38.96 set by Jackie Burbank at Tufts University on February 7, 2004.
Freshman Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) led three Stonehill sprinters in the top ten in a field of 40 in the 200-meter dash with her second place finish in 26.18-seconds. Classmate Leanne Kent (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) placed seventh in 27.26-seconds, while junior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) took ninth in 27.44.
Curit and Gray also spearheaded Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team that placed first in 4:02.7, winning the event against rival UMass Lowell by over ten seconds. Gray ran the lead leg, followed by Curit, Polakowski and sophomore Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) on the anchor leg.

Freshman Adrienne Thornton (Dorchester, Mass./John D. O'Bryant) shined in her collegiate debut in the throwing events. She won the weight throw competition with a school-record shattering distance of 47-feet, 6.25-inches – winning the event by over eight and a half feet. Thornton broke the previous school record of 40-9.75 set by Meghan Rocha at the Tufts Stampede in February 2010.
Thornton also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 37-feet, 6.75-inches – less than three inches shy of a second school-record.
Junior Meaghan Olin (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) took first place in the pole vault by matching her own school record for the second straight week with a height of 9-feet, 6.25-inches.

Freshman Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Hanlon each qualified for the final in the 55-meter hurdles. Esernio finished third in the final in 8.80-seconds, while Hanlon placed fifth in 8.95-seconds. Esernio qualified third in the field of 14 with a time of 8.79-seconds, while Hanlon qualified fourth in 8.96. Polakowski finished eighth in qualifying with her time of 9.23-seconds.
Junior Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) finished third in the 1000-meter run with her time of 3:09.
Junior Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) posted a pair of top three finishes in jumping events. She placed second in the long jump with a distance of 16-feet, 17.75 inches and took third for the triple jump with her leap of 35-feet, 2.00-inches.
Junior Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) finished sixth in the 55-meter dash in 7.63-seconds after qualifying for the final sixth in 7.68. Sophomore Christina Russo (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) placed 12th in the field of 36 sprinters in qualifying with her time of 7.83-seconds, while Kent was 15th in 7.88.
Freshman Molly Hellman (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) placed sixth out of 26 runners in the 3000-meter run with her time of 11:11.54.
Stonehill is off until the second semester when it competes at the URI Sorlien Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, on Saturday, January 19, at 11 a.m.
