NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Teams Under Consideration

EASTON, Mass. (April 22, 2021) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team has been listed as a team under consideration for an NCAA Division II Tournament bid by the East Regional selection committee, the NCAA announced this week.

Stonehill (7-2, 7-2 NE10) is one of four Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis programs listed as under consideration by the NCAA out of the six in the East Region. The Skyhawks are joined by fellow NE10 members Adelphi University (8-1, 8-1 NE10), Franklin Pierce University (9-0, 9-0 NE10) and Le Moyne College (7-2, 7-2 NE10), as well as Concordia (N.Y.) College (6-0, 5-0 CACC) from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and Saint Thomas Aquinas College (6-0, 3-0 ECC) from the East Coast Conference in this week's listing. Due to the disparity of matches played this season and the limited data available, schools are listed as "under consideration" for championship selection and not ranked.

Stonehill enters its regular season finale this afternoon against Saint Michael's College tied for third in the NE10 standings with Le Moyne, having earned the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Dolphins with a 4-0 win in Syracuse, New York, on Sunday. The Skyhawks can clinch a first round bye for next week's NE10 Tournament win a win today. The NE10 Tournament will feature all 11 women's tennis programs in the Conference, commencing with first round play on Sunday and the top three seeds all earning byes to the NE10 Quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 28. The Tournament will continue with semifinal round matches on Friday, April 30, and the NE10 Championship match scheduled for Sunday, May 2. All matches will be played at the site of the higher seeds.

The NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship selection show is scheduled to be aired on ncaa.co on Tuesday, May 4, at 8:30 p.m. The Tournament will begin with regional play, with the Division II Championship round scheduled for May 19-21 at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

Stonehill will enter the NE10 Tournament next week as the two-time defending champions, having last won the title during the 2019 fall season with a 5-1 win over Le Moyne. The Skyhawks earned the NE10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win and were scheduled to make their 14th NCAA Tournament appearance when the COVID-19 pandemic ended the athletic season in mid-March. Stonehill are winners of their last five dual matches entering today's finale, owning a win over Le Moyne, and posting a 3-1 mark against teams ranked in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings this spring.
