Markaryan leads three double-winners as Skyhawks finish 3-0 week

EASTON, Mass. (April 11, 2021) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 8 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, finished off a 3-0 week in commanding fashion, posting a 4-0 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.

How it Happened

  • Senior Isabelle Porter and Ormesher clinched the doubles point for Stonehill, sweeping their way to a 6-0 win at No. 2. Markaryan and Peter also rolled to a 6-0 win at No. 3 for the Skyhawks first doubles win.
  • Ormesher then won Stonehill's first singles point, defeating Saint Anselm freshman Elizabeth Janiak, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
  • Markaryan followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Saint Anselm senior Dominique Bolduc at No. 4 singles.
  • Peter then provided the match-clinching point for Stonehill with her 6-0, 6-2 decision against junior Josie Hulbert at No. 6.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill finished off a 3-0 week after a ten-day layoff around the Easter holiday.
  • Solorzano Valencia is ranked No. 6 in the Oracle/ITA Division II East Region singles rankings.
  • Markaryan is now 23-2 over her career in NE10 singles matches after today's win. She has posted a career singles record of 32-9, including her 5-1 mark this spring.
  • Porter and Ormesher are 4-1 this spring as a doubles tandem and are now 13-8 as a pairing over their careers.
  • Porter is now a combined 66-38 over her career in singles and doubles play after her and Ormesher's doubles win this afternoon.
  • Ormesher is a combined 46-27 in singles and doubles play over her career after her two victories this afternoon, including a combined 38-13 in the NE10.

Stonehill (5-2, 5-2 NE10) is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, to host Assumption College at Watt Courts at 3 p.m. Spectators will not be permitted to attend by the Stonehill College and NE10 COVID-19 attendance policies. Saint Anselm (0-6, 0-6 NE10) visits Saint Michael's College on Friday at 3 p.m.
