Narragansett, R.I., native earns weekly award for second-straight week

EASTON, Mass. (March 28, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week by the league office.

Toegemann, who earns Rookie of the Week honors for the second-straight week and third time overall to go with one Player of the Week award, posted a combined 4-0 record to lead Stonehill to a 2-0 week against a pair of regionally-ranked opponents. She and classmate Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) have combined to earn all eight NE-10 Rookie of the Week awards to date this year.

Toegemann and senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit), the ninth-ranked doubles team in the East Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), won both of their matches, including an 8-3 victory over Adelphi's Maria Toft and Bianca Posa, the region's eighth-ranked doubles team. Toegemann also recorded a pair of straight-sets wins at No. 2 singles in the wins over Adelphi, ranked ninth in the region, and Holy Family University, ranked tenth.

Toegemann has posted a combined 34-6 record in singles and doubles play to date in her first collegiate season. She is 18-3 in singles, having won her last seven matches, including a 12-0 dual match record with an 8-0 mark in NE-10 play, going 6-0 at No. 2 after also posting a 6-0 clip at No. 5 during the fall. Toegemann has a 16-3 doubles record with four different partners, including a 4-1 record with Frost. Toegemann reached the B-singles championship at the ITA East Regional in September as well as the B-doubles quarterfinals with senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip).

Stonehill (15-2, 8-0 NE-10), ranked sixth in the ITA East Regional rankings, is off for the Easter holiday and returns to action on Thursday, April 4, when it hosts Southern New Hampshire University, ranked seventh in the region, for a big NE-10 matchup on Purple & White Day at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
