Stonehill Sweeps Holy Family, 9-0


Freshman Bailey Paradiso defeated the region's 9th-ranked player in three sets and was one of five double-winners this afternoon.

Paradiso notches three set win over East Region #9

EASTON, Mass. (March 24, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings released on Wednesday, added a second-straight win over a regionally-ranked opponent this week with a 9-0 sweep of Holy Family University, ranked tenth in the region, in non-conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.

Freshmen Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) and Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led five double-winners for Stonehill in today's win. Paradiso, the 19th-ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA, rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 triumph over Holy Family senior Juliana Victoria (Guayaquil, Ecuador), the region's ninth-ranked player, at No. 1 singles. Paradiso and classmate Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) also rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Toegemann and senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit), the eighth-ranked doubles team in the East Region, posted an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over Victoria and freshman Alina Nersesyan (Yaroslavia, Russia). Toegemann then topped Nersesyan 7-6 (7-0, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Frost was also a double-winner for the Skyhawks, breezing to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles over sophomore Casey Borish (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy).

Senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill, starting with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Martin added a 6-0, 6-4 win over junior Maja Pantelic (Palic, Serbia) at No.5 singles, while Haedrich coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 win over freshman Jacqueline Clyne (West Islip, N.Y.) at No. 6. Sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) also earned a point for the Skyhawks with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over junior Steicy Castro (London, England) at No. 3 singles.

Stonehill (13-2, 6-0 NE-10) returns to the courts tomorrow when it hosts American International College for a Northeast-10 matchup at 3 p.m. Holy Family (9-8, 5-3 CACC) hosts La Salle University on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
