#44 Concordia Tops Stonehill, 6-3

Toegemann defeats East Region No. 10 in straight sets 

EASTON, Mass. (March 16, 2013) – Concordia College, ranked 44th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings and third in the East Region, claimed a 6-3 victory over Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the East Region, in non-conference women's tennis action at Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex today.

Sophomore Linda Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and senior Yuliya Plevako (Astana, Kazakhstan) were double-winners to lead the way for Concordia. Eliasson teamed up with senior Ana Mendes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) to edge Stonehill senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) 8-6 at No. 2 doubles to clinch a 2-1 advantage for the Clippers after doubles play. Eliasson then posted a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Stonehill freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian), the 19th-ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA, at No. 1 singles.

Plevako and freshman Luisa Candido (Boca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights), the No. 23-ranked doubles team in Division II, rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Plevako, ranked 15th in the East Region, followed with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Stonehill senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Alla Kravchuk (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and freshman Estelle Fougeray (Argences, France) also posted wins for the Clippers at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Fougeray came from a set down to record a 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 decision over Haedrich.

Freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) highlighted the play for Stonehill with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Candido, the tenth-ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA, at No. 2 singles. Paradiso and freshman Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) teamed up to earn a point at No. 3 doubles when Kravchuk and senior Camilla Xavier (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) retired with the Skyhawks tandem leading 5-4. Martin notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles for Stonehill over Mendes.

Stonehill (11-2, 5-0 NE-10) is back in action on Friday when it returns to Northeast-10 Conference play to host Adelphi University, ranked eighth in the East Region, at 1 p.m. Concordia (11-0, 8-0 CACC) visits Southern New Hampshire University tomorrow at 4 p.m.
