Birmingham, Mich., freshman collects honor for second-straight week

EASTON, Mass. (October 11, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week for women's tennis by the league office.

Paradiso, who has also been named NE-10 Player of the Week twice this fall in addition to her three Rookie of the Week selections, led Stonehill to a 9-0 victory at Le Moyne College in its lone match of the week. She teamed up with senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles before cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over senior Rebecca Black at No. 1 singles. It marked the Skyhawks fifth 9-0 victory in six matches this fall.

Paradiso is off to a combined 18-3 start in singles and doubles play to start her collegiate career. She has posted a 7-2 singles record, including a 6-1 mark at No. 1 singles and a 5-0 start to her NE-10 career. Paradiso and Frost have teamed up to go 11-1 in doubles play, including a 7-0 dual match record at the top flight and a 5-0 mark in the NE-10. She has won her last eight matches in singles and doubles play combined. The duo also reached the B-Doubles bracket semifinals at the ITA East Regional in Philadelphia two weeks ago.

Paradiso comes to Stonehill after a standout career at Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where she captured five individual state tennis championships and was part of a Mustangs team that won a state championship her sophomore year. The three-time All-State performer won three singles state championships and two doubles titles over her career. She was also an honorable mention All-State selection as a freshman.

Stonehill (7-0, 5-0 NE-10), ranked fifth in the ITA East Regional rankings, will wrap up its fall schedule this weekend at the New England Championships, hosted by Providence College.
