Toegemann Sweeps NE-10 Women’s Tennis Weekly Honors

Narragansett, R.I., native named NE-10 Player and Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (March 19, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) has swept the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly awards for women's tennis by being named the Player and Rookie of the Week by the league office this afternoon.

Toegemann, who earns Rookie of the Week honors for the second time to go with her first Player of the Week selection, was a combined 3-1 in singles and doubles play as Stonehill split a pair of matches last week. She was 2-0 at No. 2 singles, including a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Concordia (N.Y.) College's Luisa Candido, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Rankings, on Saturday. Toegemann and classmate Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) have combined to earn all seven NE-10 Rookie of the Week awards to date this year. Paradiso has also collected two Player of the Week awards, with junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) another to go with Toegemann's first award to give the Skyhawks four in seven weeks.

Toegemann was a double-winner in the Skyhawks' 8-1 victory over Division I College of the Holy Cross, rallying for a 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 triumph over Jaclyn Carroll. Toegemann and sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) also teamed up for an 8-3 decision at No. 1 doubles. Her lone blemish of the week came with a loss to Concordia's top doubles team, with senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit), the 23rd-ranked doubles tandem in Division II and ranked second in the East Region.

Toegemann has posted a combined 26-6 record in singles and doubles play to date in her first collegiate season. She is 14-3 in singles, including an 8-0 dual match record with a 5-0 mark in NE-10 play, going 2-0 at No. 2 after posting a 6-0 clip at No. 5 during the fall. Toegemann has posted a 12-3 doubles record with four different partners, including a 10-2 record with senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip). Toegemann reached the B-singles championship at the ITA East Regional in September as well as the B-doubles quarterfinals with Haedrich.

Stonehill (11-2, 5-0 NE-10), ranked seventh in the ITA East Regional rankings, is back in action on Friday when it returns to Northeast-10 Conference play to host Adelphi University, ranked eighth in the region, for a key clash at 10 a.m.
