Stonehill Swims Past Clark in Final Tune-up

Stockwell and Lundell lead the way for Skyhawks in dual win

WORCESTER, Mass. (February 5, 2022) – The Stonehill College women's swimming team returned to the pool for the first time in nearly a month and recorded a 144.00-131.00 dual meet win over Clark University in its final tune-up for championship season at Kneller Athletic Center this afternoon. 

Highlights 

  • Sophomore captain Sydney Stockwell paced Stonehill with wins in all three of her individual swims, scoring 27 points towards the Skyhawks team score and adding a fourth win as part of a relay. She started with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.60, before adding a win in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.07 and then finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.93.
  • Freshman Sharlotte Lundell also enjoyed a strong meet, posting two firsts and a second to score 22 points for the afternoon. She won the 200-yard breaststroke in a personal-best 2:38.97, edging freshman teammate Jami Hepburn by 0.21-seconds, while taking first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:22.07. Lundell also turned in a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:23.16.
  • Stockwell and Lundell were also members of Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay that finished first in 2:01.33. Lundell swam the lead backstroke leg in a personal-best 30.28-seconds, before Stockwell swam the breaststroke leg in 34.25-seconds and then junior Nika Sokolova completed the butterfly leg in 29.73-seconds and then Hepburn completed the freestyle anchor in 27.07.
  • Hepburn also collected a pair of individual wins to go with her second in the 200-yard breaststroke (personal-best 2:39.18). She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.43 and then finished first in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.25-seconds to finish the day with 22 points for the Skyhawks.
  • Sophomore Katie Keating added an event win in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:21.58 and finished with three top three finishes overall. She followed that with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:02.19 and then took third in the 100-butterfly in 1:04.04.

    Sophomore Maddie Conley rounded out Stonehill's event winners, taking first in the 1650-yard freestyle in 20:17.01. She later finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:56.19.
  • Conley, Keating and junior Maggie Timmoney and freshman Julie Mastroianni also led Stonehill to a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:51.90. Conley swam the lead leg in 28.21-seconds, followed by a 29.62 split for Timmoney, and then Mastroianni completed the third leg in 27.05-seconds, before Keating swam the anchor leg in 27.02.

  • Mastroianni turned in two second place finishes in the two distance events. She was second to Conley in the 1650-free in 20:41.18 and then added a runner-up in the 500-free in 5:55.04.
  • Sokolova added three top three finishes in her individual swims. She started with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.16, adding the same finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:55.55 and then taking second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:28.03.
  • Timmoney took third place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:19.09, adding a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.54) and sixth in the 100-free (1:04.17).

Stonehill now turns its attention towards its Northeast-10 Conference Championships debut in two weeks, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at Hutchinson Natatorium in New Haven, Connecticut, February 17-20.
