Women's Swimming Splits Midweek Tri-Meet at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (November 18, 2021) – The Stonehill College women's swimming team improved to 4-2 in head-to-head competition after splitting a tri-meet hosted by Bridgewater State University at Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool on Wednesday night.

The Details

  • Stonehill recorded a pair of event wins, along with nine top three finishes and 12 top five performances on the night, posting a 120.00-98.00 victory over host Bridgewater State, while being defeated by Wheaton (Mass.) College, 149.00-65.00 who also notched a head-to-head win over the host Bears.
  • Sophomore co-captain Sydney Stockwell remained unbeaten in the backstroke with her first-place finish in the 100-yard distance in 1:01.68. She also posted a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.56-seconds. Stockwell has seven individual wins through three meets this season.
  • Stockwell turned in two top three individual finishes on the night and was also part of Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay that finished third in 1:55.90, swimming the lead backstroke leg in 29.72-seconds. Also swimming the medley relay were freshman Jami Hepburn with a 31.31-second split on the breaststroke leg, before classmate Sharlotte Lundell completed the butterfly leg in 27.55-seconds and then sophomore Maddie Conley swam the freestyle anchor leg in 27.77-seconds.
  • Hepburn set a school-record in the 100-yard breaststroke with her time of 1:09.00 to finish second out of nine entries. Sophomores Morgan Gangi and Conley finished third and fourth in the event, respectively, in 1:03.36 and 1:14.44.

    Sophomore Katie Keating posted her fourth win of the season with her first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.74, followed close behind by Lundell in second in 1:01.97.
  • Keating also swam a leg on Stonehill's 200-yard freestyle relay that finished second in 1:50.37. Freshman Julie Mastroianni swam the lead leg in 28.44-seconds, followed by junior Nika Sokolova with a 27.54 split, before Keating swam a 27.30 split and then freshman Sofiya Gobora completed the anchor leg in 27.09-seconds.
  • Gobora also added two top five individual finishes, swimming the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.58 for fourth overall and then adding a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:36.95.
  • Lundell also added another top five finish with her fourth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley relay in 2:22.94.
  • Conley posted a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.12.
