EASTON, Mass. (October 12, 2021) – Stonehill College sophomore captain Sydney Stockwell has made program history following the women's swimming team's debut weekend by earning Rookie of the Week honors from the Northeast-10 Conference this afternoon.

Stockwell earns the first weekly award in the program's young history after shining in Stonehill's debut at an intercollegiate event over the weekend. She helped lead Stonehill to a split of its tri-meet at Keene State College on Saturday, with the Skyhawks posting a 194.00-56.00 win over Colby-Sawyer College, while being edged by a point (136.00-135.00) against host Keene State. Stockwell took first place in all three of her individual swims on Saturday, while also swimming the lead backstroke leg of Stonehill's 200-yard medley relay that finished second in 1:57.09 in 30.21 seconds. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.63-seconds, took first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.57 and clocked in at 2:16.72 for her first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke.

Stockwell's 200-yard backstroke time is currently fastest in the NE10 in the early going of the season, while ranking second in the Conference for the 100-yard butterfly, sixth in the 50-back and seventh for the 50-free. The Skyhawks 200-yard medley relay is second-fastest in the NE10 to date.

Stockwell, who earned Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) both semesters during her freshman year, impressed during Stonehill's virtual meets in the spring. She was second in the high point standings as the Skyhawks competed in a three-part virtual meet among nine programs, finishing with 118.5 points. She took three event wins over the course of the series and scored in all seven of the individual events she competed in, while also swimming in five relays that finished in the top five. Stockwell added two more event wins as the Skyhawks capped the spring with a virtual open meet with four other programs.

The neuroscience major was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll both semesters during her freshman year, earning Academic Distinction status in the fall for having a semester grade point average between 3.50 and 3.99, then receiving Academic Excellence status in the spring with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Stockwell has also been named to the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll both semesters.

Stonehill returns to the pool on Saturday, October 23, with a head-to-head dual meet at Western New England University, in Springfield, Massachusetts, at noon.
