Women's Swimming Sets Records on Opening Day of ECAC Winter Championships

Conley, Gobora and Hepburn all log school records as each Skyhawk swim notches PRs

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (December 3, 2021) – The Stonehill College women's swimming program opened its first championship meet in program history, competing on day one of the 2021 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Championship at the Nassau County Aquatic Center today.

Highlights

  • Sophomore captain Maddie Conley led three from Stonehill in the 500-yard freestyle prelims, edging her own school record with a time of 5:29.65 to lead the six non-Division I swimmers in the event in 38th place out of 50 entries. Junior Nika Sokolova with a time of 5:41.88 (43rd) and freshman Julie Mastroianni with a time of 5:45.90 (45th) each logged personal best times in the event as well.
  • Freshman Sofiya Gobora set a school record in the 200-yard individual medley prelims, clocking in at 2:14.54 to lead four from Stonehill in the event and place 35th in the field of 57 competitors in the event overall – including second among the ten non-Division I entries. Also posting personal bests for the Skyhawks in the event were sophomore captain Sydney Stockwell at 2:16.66 (39th), freshman Sharlotte Lundell in 2:17.38 (41st) and sophomore Morgan Gangi (Waltham, Massachusetts/Waltham) at 2:23.70 (51st).

    Rounding out Stonehill's record performances on Friday was freshman Jami Hepburn with her time of 26.08-seconds in the 50-yard freestyle prelims to finish 61st out of 107 entries overall and third among the non-Division I swimmers. Sophomore Katie Keating  clocked in at 26.20-seconds (64th), Sokolova finished in 26.28 (66th), freshman Pili Lum posted a time of 28.10 (93rd) and junior Maggie Timmoney finished in 28.83 (100th) to all record personal bests.
  • Stonehill took 11th out of 20 teams in the 400-yard medley relay finals with a time of 4:01.25 – good for first among the non-Division I teams in the event, while the Skyhawks B-relay finished 15th in 4:11.03. Stockwell swam the opening backstroke leg for the A-relay in a school-record time, followed by Hepburn with the breaststroke leg and then Keating for the butterfly leg, before Gobora completed the freestyle anchor leg. Swimming for the B-relay were Sokolova, Gangi, Lundell and Mastroianni.
  • Stonehill's 200-yard freestyle A-relay team finished 13th out of 20 teams overall in the finals, but led the non-Division I entries with their time of 1:42.10. Stonehill's B-relay finished 16th in 1:44.21. Swimming for the A-relay was Stockwell, Hepburn, Keating and Gobora, while Mastroianni, Conley, Sokolova and Lundell competed for the B-relay.
