Women's Swimming Holds Pair of Fall Intrasquad Meets

Stockwell posts five event wins over the two meets to lead Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (December 1, 2020) – The Stonehill College women's swimming program, under the direction of head coach Caleb Potvin, held a pair of intrasquad meets at its temporary home, the Old Colony YMCA in Taunton, Massachusetts, during the fall semester as it prepares for its inaugural season during the second semester.

Stonehill held its first Purple & White Pentathlon on October 31, and then closed out its first semester training with a Purple & White Super-Pentathlon on Saturday, November 21. Freshman captain Sydney Stockwell led the way for the Skyhawks with five event wins and seven top three finishes over the two meets.

Sydney Stockwell led the way with three event wins for the Skyhawks, finishing in the top three in all five events of the pentathlon. She posted event wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.60), 100-yard freestyle (58.30) and 200-yard individual medley relay (2:23.09). Freshmen Katie Keating and Maddie Conley also earned event wins on the afternoon, with Keating winning the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.80) and Conley taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.20).

In addition to Stockwell's five top three finishes on the afternoon, Conley finished in the top three in four of the five events, while freshman Morgan Gangi was in the top three in three events, turning in a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.20), Keating was in the top three in two events and sophomore Nika Sokolova added a top three finish with her second place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.55).

Stockwell, Conley and Keating each recorded a pair of wins over the six events the Skyhawks competed in over the course of the afternoon in their second intrasquad meet of the semester. Stockwell finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.93) and 400-yard IM (5:09.14), while Conley took first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.47) and 500-yard freestyle (5:44.22) and Keating posted a time of 2:19.40 in the 200-yard butterfly and then finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.20).

Keating, Gangi and Nika Sokolova posted top three finishes in all three events they competed in for the afternoon, with Gangi and Sokolova each recording a pair of second place finishes.

Stonehill, in conjunction with the Northeast-10 Conference, announced in August the suspension of all intercollegiate competition for its 22 varsity athletic programs through December 31, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The College and the NE10 continue to work towards a meaningful championship schedule for all sports after the New Year.
