Women's Golf Improves Again in Final Round of NEC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 25, 2023) – Stonehill College wrapped up its inaugural trip to the Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championship by improving for the second-straight round and finished off a tenth-place finish with a near-record day on the 6,117-yard, par 72 layout of the Hills Course at LPGA International today.

Stonehill improved its team score for the second-straight day, finishing with a 335 third round score that fell just three strokes shy of the program's lowest score at a championship event, having posted a 332 in the first round of the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Shenendoah Golf Court in Verona, New York. The Skyhawks trimmed 14 strokes of their second-round score of 349 and showed a 32-stroke improvement from the first round. Stonehill remained in tenth place in the team standings, finishing with a three-day score of 1,051 which fell 23 shots shy of its program-best three-day score of 1,028 at the 2019 Sunoco Campbell Oil Classic, hosted by UNC Pembroke in 2019.

Sacred Heart University finished off its second-straight NEC Championship with a three-day score of 895 (303-297-295), led by individual champion Chantal El Chaib who shot even par today to finish the Championship one-under-par (72-71-72=215) to edge teammate Kailee Welch (72-73-71=216) by just a stroke, with the top three separated by just two shots as Anna Ferreyra-Helt finished one over par (76-68-73=217) after carding the lowest round of the tournament with her four-under 68 on Monday. She helped the Hornets finish second in the team standings with a three-day score of 905 (313-290-302), while Howard University rounded out the top three at 907 (312-304-291) after posting the best team score of the day.

Senior co-captain Julia Dapron capped her collegiate career with her lowest championship round with a team-best 79 today to finish with a three-day score of 252 (85-88-79). She finished within a stroke of the program-best championship round set by freshman Jaelyn DeBoise on Monday. Dapron posted two birdies on her round today, bettering par on the 485-yard par 5 second and 365-yard par 4 11th hole (her second hole of the day). She added nine pars on the day and posted a two-over-par 38 on the front nine, her second nine of the day.

DeBoise rounded out her first collegiate championship in 43rd overall with a three-day score of 257 after carding an 84 today. She registered a birdie on the 118-yard par 3 third hole and added six pars, shooting three-over 39 on the front nine – her second nine of the day. DeBoise finished tied for 13th in the field for par three scoring, averaging 3.25 over the three rounds for the four par threes, playing those 12 holes total at three-over-par.

  • Senior co-captain Emily Kase posted the second-lowest score of the day for Stonehill with an 83 – one shy of her personal championship best. She also carded a pair of birdies today on the 345-yard, par 4 fourth hole on her way to a four-over-par 40 on the front nine (her second nine), after doing so on the 350-yard, par 4 13th hole. Kase moved up one spot to 45th overall with a three-day score of 265 (90-92-83).
  • Sophomore Mollie Thomas finished 47th overall at 277 after wrapping up with an 89 today.
  • Junior Hannah Pignato closed out her NEC Championship in 49th place with a score of 289 after a second-straight round of 95 today.
