Dapron leads Skyhawks with two-day score of 169 for 22nd place

MILFORD, Conn. (April 17, 2023) – Stonehill College wrapped up its last event before its Northeast Conference Championship debut with a fifth-place team finish at the SHU Spring Invitational, hosted by Sacred Heart University, on the 5,951-yard, par 72 layout at Great River Golf Club today.

Host Sacred Heart posted the lowest team score of the weekend after a second round 295 to finish with a two-day score of 592 (297-295) for a 13-stroke victory over Boston University (297-308=605) after the two teams were tied after Sunday's first round. Stonehill posted a two-day score of 703 (349-354) to finish fifth at the Invitational, which also included the University of Hartford and College of the Holy Cross.

Sacred Heart took four of the top five positions on the individual leaderboard, with Chantal El Chaib earning medalist honors with a two-over-par two-day score of 146 as she followed up her even par first round score with a two-over 74 today. She finished two strokes better than teammate Margot Rouquette (148), who followed up a first round 78 with a two-under-par 70 today that marked just one of two under par rounds at the tournament, and Alice Fan from BU (75-73=148).

Senior Julia Dapron led the way for Stonehill with a two-day score of 169 to finish in 22nd overall in the field of 41 golfers. She birdied the par-5 third hole on her way to a second round 87 that also included seven pars after shooting an 82 on Sunday. Freshman Jaelyn DeBoise matched the Skyhawks lowest round of the day with an 86, posting a birdie on the par-4 seventh, and moved up one spot to 26th place with a two-day score of 175 (89-86).

  • Senior Emily Kase, sophomore Mollie Thomas and junior Hannah Pignato finished in 29th through 31st for Stonehill. Kase posted a two-day score of 182 (92-90), with Thomas finishing at 183 (92-91) and Pignato totaling 184 (86-98).
  • Freshman Caitlin Anderson matched DeBoise for the lowest round of the day for Stonehill at 86, while competing as an individual, and moved up five spots to finish 35th overall at 192 (106-86).
  • Freshmen Cheyenne Couture and Cecile Elie finished 37th and 41st, respectively. Couture totaled 196 (98-98) over the two rounds, while Elie totaled 221 (111-110).

Stonehill will head south to compete in its first NEC Women's Golf Championship this weekend, hosted by LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida, Friday through Sunday.
