Last Time Out
UAlbany connected on 50-percent of its shots, including 9-for-18 from three-point range to pull away from Stonehill for a 77-38 victory at Broadview Center. Kayla Cooper paced UAlbany with a double-double performance as she totaled game-high totals of 16 points and 11 rebounds, including 12 points in the first half, connecting on 7-of-9 shots and dishing out six assists with five steals. Deja Evans added 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, with seven rebounds and two blocked shots, while Meghan Huerter rounded out the Great Danes in double-figures with 11 points and four boards off the bench, connecting on 3-of-6 threes. Senior Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) and freshman Brooke Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) each scored a team-high eight points for Stonehill. Thornton also shared the team lead with a career-high matching six rebounds, with all eight of Paquette's points coming in the second half. Stonehill, which made 5-of-10 three-pointers in the first half, including 3-of-5 in the second quarter, got one of those long-range shots from junior Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) to open the second and was back within ten (31-21) after a three by postgrad Anna Boruta (Vienna, Austria) with 2:47 left in the half. UAlbany held there, however, scoring the last 12 points of the half, sparked by a Huerter three and capped by four points from Cooper, to carry a 22-point (43-21) lead into halftime, and the advantage wouldn't drop below 20 through the second half.

Against the Revolutionaries
Today marks the first meeting all-time between the two programs. It also marks Stonehill's first matchup against an Atlantic-10 Conference member in the program's two-year NCAA Division I history. The Skyhawks mark George Washington's first Northeast Conference opponent since a 76-54 victory over former NEC member Quinnipiac University in 2003.

District Debut

DC History
George Washington is the second women's basketball program hailing from our Nation's Capital to appear on Stonehill's schedule all-time. Stonehill has one prior meeting with University of District of Columbia in its history, posting a 79-61 victory over the Firebirds in the first round of the 2014 NCAA II East Regional, hosted by Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, on March 14, 2014.

Lights, Camera, Action!
Both Stonehill women's basketball matchups with Saint Francis have been selected by the Northeast Conference to appear in the Conference's 2023-24 basketball broadcast schedule the league announced last week. Stonehill will host Saint Francis at Merkert Gym for an NEC matchup on Thursday, January 25, at 6 p.m., in a game that will now be broadcast live on ESPN+, as well as the Skyhawks return NEC matchup with the Red Flash in Loretto, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, February 24, at 4 p.m. It marks the first time in the Skyhawks two-year history with the NEC that it will have two games included in the Conference's ESPN+ package and the second-straight year it will host a game in the broadcast package after hosting Merrimack College in an ESPN+ clash at Merkert Gymnasium last February. The two Stonehill/Saint Francis matchups are among 12 women's games included in the NEC 25-game basketball broadcasting package for the 2023-24 season – 23 of which will be broadcast on ESPN platforms. The two games add to five Stonehill women's games scheduled for ESPN digital platforms this season, including today's game at George Washington on ESPN+.

Giving Back for the Holidays
Stonehill took a break from the court and preparing for the College's upcoming final exam period to give back to the community on Saturday, December 9, by volunteering the the "Santa's Workshop" at My Brother's Keeper in Easton, located just off the edge of campus.  Since 1990, My Brother's Keeper has brought joy to kids and removed stress from parents who could not provide presents for their children at Christmas. My Brother's Keeper delivers personally-selected gifts to over 3,000 families living from the North Shore to Fall River and Cape Cod. Many Christmas assistance programs only serve children under age 13, but in keeping with our mission, My Brother's Keeper serves the whole family – children, teens, and parents too.

Fresh Start
Stonehill freshman Brooke Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) made the first two starts of her collegiate career at Boston College and UAlbany last week, leading Skyhawk scorers with eight points in each game. Paquette has posted a pair of double-figure scoring games and led Stonehill in scoring three times through the first 11 games of her collegiate career.

Welcome Back Cam
Stonehill senior captain Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.) made her first appearance of the season at UAlbany on Saturday, playing four minutes off the bench and collecting a steal. It marked her first game action in 348 days following a mid-year injury last appearing in the Skyhawks 73-66 win at Central Connecticut State University in their NEC debut last January 2. Stonehill was 5-5 in Ward's ten starts last season, capping her 2022-23 season with back-to-back double-figure games, including 12 points and eight rebounds in the CCSU win.

Bright Spot
Stonehill's six three-point field goals at UAlbany on Saturday are two shy of its season-high of eight against New Hampshire on December 6. The Skyhawks finished 6-for-19 (31.8%) from beyond the arc on Saturday, but made 3-of-5 three-pointers in the second quarter to finish 5-for-10 (50%) in the first half with four different players connecting from long range in the half.

Upward Arc
Stonehill freshman Emma Arcà (Rome, Italy) chipped in a season-high seven points at UAlbany on Saturday, chipping in four rebounds. She has now scored in two-straight games and has pulled down four rebounds in back-to-back games.

Mo Boards
Junior forward Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) ranks second in the NEC with her team-best 7.5 rebounds per game, including 5.8 defensive boards per game to also rank second in the Conference. She has led Stonehill in rebounding in ten if its 11 games this season, pulling down double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games, including a career-high 14 rebounds at Niagara - tied for tops in the NEC this season.

Preseason Prognostications
Stonehill has been picked to finish fifth in its second trip around the Northeast Conference by the league's head coaches in its preseason poll announced at the Conference's Social Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark in October. Defending NEC Tournament Champions Sacred Heart University is the unanimous choice to capture the regular season title with all nine first place votes, followed by No. 2 Merrimack, No. 3 Wagner, defending regular season champions FDU at No. 4 and Stonehill. LIU follows the Skyhawks at No. 6, with Saint Francis No. 7, NEC newcomer Le Moyne No. 8 and No. 9 Central Connecticut State.

Tough Slate
Stonehill has again assembled a strong non-conference test to lead into its second Northeast Conference season. The Skyhawks will face their first ACC opponent in Boston College in Chestnut Hill on December 12 (11 AM) to go along with opponents from the Big East (1 - DePaul), Atlantic-10 (1 - George Washington), CAA (1 - Northeastern), MAC (1 - Buffalo), WAC (1 - Utah Tech), America East (3 - Bryant, New Hampshire, UAlbany), MAAC (2 - Niagara, Fairfield) and Patriot League (2 - Lehigh, Holy Cross). Of this year's 13 game non-conference schedule, eight are repeat opponents from the Skyhawks inaugural Division I season, starting with tonight's return visit to Merkert by Northeastern and including: Lehigh (Nov. 11), Bryant (Nov. 14), Buffalo (Nov. 17), Holy Cross (Nov. 29), New Hampshire (Dec. 6), UAlbany (Dec. 16) and Fairfield (Dec. 30) - with six of those eight here at home.

Inside the Roster
Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown returns five letterwinners, including just one starter and no regular starters, from its inaugural NCAA Division I season in 2022-23.
Stonehill's roster includes:
• Three Division I transfers, including two postgraduate transfers in Anna Boruta (Vienna, Austra) from Northeastern and Lauren Sampson (Waltham, Mass.) from Providence, as well as sophomore Paige Martin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) from St. Francis-Brooklyn.

Tourney Time
Stonehill, winners of six Northeast-10 Conference Championship prior to elevating its program to NCAA Division I status in 2022, will have the opportunity to compete for a Northeast Conference title for the first time this season after the NEC presidents voted to waive the two-year waiting period in automatic qualifier sports at their June meetings. The Skyhawks remain NCAA Tournament ineligible until the 2026-27 season.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College kicked off its 75th Anniversary Celebration with a Jubilee Mass during Family Weekend in September, followed by music, games, food trucks and beer garden.
