Skyhawks set for second NCAA Division I season

EASTON, Mass. (August 24, 2023) – EASTON, Mass. (August 24, 2023) – Stonehill College women's basketball has released its full 2023-24 schedule, marking its second NCAA Division I season as members of the Northeast Conference.

Stonehill, under the direction of head coach Trisha Brown for her 23rd year, will open play with a 13 game non-conference schedule, including seven on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium, starting with a return visit by Northeastern University to tip-off the 2023-24 season on Monday, November 6. The Coastal Athletic Conference (CAA) member Huskies held off the Skyhawks for a 75-64 win in their first visit to Merkert Gymnasium last December.

Also visiting Merkert Gym this season will be Lehigh University on November 11, Bryant University on November 14, Utah Tech on November 25, College of the Holy Cross on November 29, University of New Hampshire on December 6, and then Fairfield University on December 30. Five of those remaining six programs were on Stonehill's inaugural Division I schedule last winter, with the Skyhawks notching road wins against New Hampshire (57-50) and Bryant (81-74).

Stonehill will hit the road for six non-conference games this season, starting November 9, at Big East member DePaul University in Chicago. The Skyhawks will also travel to upstate New York for a pair of games at the University of Buffalo and Niagara University on November 17 and 19. Stonehill will visit Boston College of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on December 12, before traveling to UAlbany on December 16 and George Washington University on December 21.

Stonehill will open its second NEC season on the road with matchups at LIU and Central Connecticut State University on January 6 and 8, respectively. The Skyhawks NEC home opener is the following weekend as it hosts FDU on Saturday, January 13 (2 PM) and then Wagner College on Monday, January 15. Those games kick off a six game stretch with five home dates, as Merrimack College and Saint Francis University visit Merkert Gym on January 21 and 25, with reigning NEC Champions Sacred Heart University in Easton on Thursday, February 1, to open the month of February.

Tickets for the 2023-24 season will also be available for purchase online following that announcement. Stonehill home games and NEC contests will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row - the NEC's digital broadcast platform.

 

Stonehill closed out its inaugural NCAA Division I season with a 9-20 record overall in 2022-23, including 5-11 in its first NEC season to finish seventh in the Conference's regular season standings after being picked ninth by the league's head coaches in the NEC preseason poll. The Skyhawks notched a win in their NEC debut at Central Connecticut State University (73-66) on January 2 and completed a regular season series sweep of the Blue Devils – its first as an NEC member. Stonehill also logged NEC wins against LIU, St. Francis Brooklyn, and Wagner College, finishing the year winners of three of their last five. The Skyhawks received the NEC Team Sportsmanship Award and academic recognition from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), while recent graduate Emily Bramanti, '23 earned All-NEC first-team honors.
