The Game
Stonehill College closes out its opening four game stretch over the first eight days of the season by hosting Bryant University for a non-conference matchup on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this evening. The Skyhawks seek their first win of the season after seeing a late rally halted in a 62-50 setback to Lehigh University here at Merkert Gym on Saturday. The Bulldogs return to Easton for the first time since the 2008 Northeast-10 Conference Championship having split its first two games of the season after a 73-45 loss at Seton Hall University on Sunday.

Media Information
Tonight's game will be broadcast live via SkyhawksVision on NEC Front Row. Charlie Bergeron (PBP) has the call of the action on the hardwood for the 25th-straight year and is joined by former Stonehill assistant coach Kara Kelly (analyst). The broadcast can be accessed via stonehillskyhawks.com through its NEC Front Row portal (necfrontrow.com/schools/SC) or through Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku via the NEC On the Run App. Radio coverage locally is provided by WSHL 91.3 FM with Chris Robbins and Andrew Nilsen calling the action.

Last Time Out
Lehigh held off Stonehill College down the stretch to collect a 62-50 victory in a non-conference women's basketball matchup on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium. Sophomore Lily Fandre posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting with two assists to lead three from Lehigh in double-figures. She also connected on 2-of-4 three-pointers and chipped in a steal and blocked shot. Junior Meghan O'Brien added 12 points, eight rebounds (four offensive) and three blocked shots, while senior Jamie Behar made all four shots she took, including two three-pointers, for ten points in seven minutes off the bench. Senior Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) led Stonehill's scoring with ten points, adding two rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Paige Martin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) pulled down a career and team-high ten rebounds (four offensive), with five points and a steal. Junior Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) contributed a season-high eight points and seven rebounds and postgrad Anna Boruta (Vienna, Austria) chipped in eight points, five boards and two blocked shots.

Against the Bulldogs
Tonight marks the 65th meeting all-time between these two former Northeast-10 Conference members, the second in the two program's NCAA Division I eras. Stonehill holds a 43-21 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1981-82 season after posting an 81-74 triumph over Bryant in Smithfield, R.I., last December in the first NCAA Division I encounter between the two. Stonehill is 27-6 all-time against Bryant here at Merkert Gym as the Bulldogs return to Easton for the first time since the Skyhawks won the 2008 NE10 Championship with a 67-58 victory. Stonehill has won the last four meetings overall in the series and five-straight at Merkert Gym against the Bulldogs. Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown is 12-5 in her career against the Bulldogs, while Bryant head coach Lynne-Ann Kokoski, a senior for the Bulldogs in that 2008 NEC title game, will face the Skyhawks for the first time as head coach after going 2-8 against Stonehill as a student-athlete.

Last Time They Met
Emily Bramanti netted a career-high 38 points to lead Stonehill to an 81-74 triumph over Bryant in a non-conference matchup in Smithfield, R.I., last December. Bramanti's 38 points fell just a point shy Stonehill's school-record of 39 points by Hall of Famers Michelle Doonan, '95 and Sue Patchett, '97. Bramanti, who scored 25 of her 38 in the second half, including 15 of the Skyhawks 17 third quarter points, finished 13-for-19 from the floor, including a blistering 6-for-8 from three-point distance, to go with four rebounds, three assists, a steal and a blocked shot over her 39-minutes of work. She was joined in double-figures by fellow fifth-year Sophie Glidden and postgrad Maddie Loder with ten points apiece. Junior Mariona Planes Fortuny led Bryant with 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three blocks. Stonehill outscored Bryant 29-16 in the fourth quarter to complete a comeback from as much as a nine-point third quarter deficit for the win.

Skyhawks Rising in the East
Bryant marks Stonehill's first of three America East opponents on its non-conference schedule this season - the first of two (New Hampshire) that will be played at Merkert Gym. Stonehill finished 2-2 against America East members during the non-conference portion of its inaugural Division I season. The Skyhawks dropped a 70-48 decision at Vermont on day one of the TD Bank Classic on November 26, but won two-straight against the Conference with a 57-50 win at New Hampshire on December 3 for its first road win at the NCAA Division I level as well an 81-74 win at Bryant on December 11. UAlbany, the reigning Conference champions at the time, escaped with a narrow 47-46 victory here at Merkert Gym on December 14.

Familiar Face
Stonehill's first-year assistant coach Marcus Reilly joined the Skyhawks coaching staff this season after serving four years on the Bryant bench on former head coach Mary Burke's coaching staff prior to her retirement last spring. The Bulldogs reached the 2022 Northeast Conference Championship during Reilly's time in Smithfield, helping the program transition to America East last season. Prior to his time at Bryant, he served eight seasons on the Rhode Island coaching staff and had a highly successful head coaching tenure at Rhode Island College, leading the Anchorwomen to a 171-87 (.663) record, winning a Little East Championship and NCAA Tournament bid, while earning New England Division III and Little East Coach of the Year honors. He also enjoyed stops at Community College of Rhode Island (head coach), Jacksonville State (assistant) and Cranston West (R.I.) High School (head coach) over his career.

Three for Three
Stonehill senior forward Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) has scored in double-figures in all three games for the Skyhawks so far - doubling her career total entering the season. She is ranked fourth in the NEC with her 13.0 points per game after the first week of the season, while ranking fifth in field goal percentage (.360).

Thank You for Coming!
Stonehill is averaging an NEC-best 401 fans per game after its first two home games of the 2023-24 season.

Preseason Prognostications
Stonehill has been picked to finish fifth in its second trip around the Northeast Conference by the league's head coaches in its preseason poll announced at the Conference's Social Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark in October. Defending NEC Tournament Champions Sacred Heart University is the unanimous choice to capture the regular season title with all nine first place votes, followed by No. 2 Merrimack, No. 3 Wagner, defending regular season champions FDU at No. 4 and Stonehill. LIU follows the Skyhawks at No. 6, with Saint Francis No. 7, NEC newcomer Le Moyne No. 8 and No. 9 Central Connecticut State.

Tough Slate
Stonehill has again assembled a strong non-conference test to lead into its second Northeast Conference season. The Skyhawks will face their first ACC opponent in Boston College in Chestnut Hill on December 12 (11 AM) to go along with opponents from the Big East (1 - DePaul), Atlantic-10 (1 - George Washington), CAA (1 - Northeastern), MAC (1 - Buffalo), WAC (1 - Utah Tech), America East (3 - Bryant, New Hampshire, UAlbany), MAAC (2 - Niagara, Fairfield) and Patriot League (2 - Lehigh, Holy Cross). Of this year's 13 game non-conference schedule, eight are repeat opponents from the Skyhawks inaugural Division I season, starting with tonight's return visit to Merkert by Northeastern and including: Lehigh (Nov. 11), Bryant (Nov. 14), Buffalo (Nov. 17), Holy Cross (Nov. 29), New Hampshire (Dec. 6), UAlbany (Dec. 16) and Fairfield (Dec. 30) - with six of those eight here at home.

Inside the Roster
Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown returns five letterwinners, including just one starter and no regular starters, from its inaugural NCAA Division I season in 2022-23.
Stonehill's roster includes:
• Three Division I transfers, including two postgraduate transfers in Anna Boruta (Vienna, Austra) from Northeastern and Lauren Sampson (Waltham, Mass.) from Providence, as well as sophomore Paige Martin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) from St. Francis-Brooklyn.
• Three players who combined to start 16 games last season, including senior Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.), who started ten of 14 games before being sidelined by injury.
• A program-record three international student-athletes.
• Two postgrads, two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and six freshmen.

Tourney Time
Stonehill, winners of six Northeast-10 Conference Championship prior to elevating its program to NCAA Division I status in 2022, will have the opportunity to compete for a Northeast Conference title for the first time this season after the NEC presidents voted to waive the two-year waiting period in automatic qualifier sports at their June meetings. The Skyhawks remain NCAA Tournament ineligible until the 2026-27 season.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College kicked off its 75th Anniversary Celebration with a Jubilee Mass during Family Weekend in September, followed by music, games, food trucks and beer garden.
