Thomas top qualifier for Saturday’s 110-meter hurdles final

DEDHAM, Mass. (May 7, 2010) – The Stonehill College men’s outdoor track and field team had limited participation on day one of the 2010 New England Championships, hosted by Northeastern University, at Solomon Stadium, but turned in some strong results on the day.

Sophomore Stephen Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) led Stonehill with a fifth place finish out of 31 runners in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:39.05.

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) was the top qualifier for tomorrow’s 110-meter high hurdles final with his time of 14.42-seconds in a preliminary heat today. He will run in Saturday’s final at 1:50 p.m., while also competing in the high jump starting at 12:30 p.m.

Freshman John Gelcius (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) placed tenth out of 21 competitors in the javelin with his throw of 183’01”.

Junior Dan Fidler (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) rounded out the Skyhawks day one competitors with a 20th-place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:28.49.

The New England Championships conclude with a full slate of events at Solomon Stadium on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
