CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 27, 2010) – Stonehill College junior Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) qualified for the 1500-meter finals with his preliminary round run on day one of the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Johnson C. Colorado Mines University sophomore Mack McLain, ranked tenth nationally for the event entering the championships, was the top qualifier with his time of 3:44.70 in the first heat.

Fullerton, who qualified for the Championships with his school-record time of 3:49.07 at the New Balance Boston High Performance Twilight Invitational two weeks ago, will now race in Saturday’s 1500-meter final at 6:15 p.m. In tonight’s prelims, Fullerton turned it on in the final lap to qualify for the final with a 54.5-second split over the final 400-meters.

Freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High), the East Region Field Athlete of the Year, will take the stage for Stonehill at the NCAA Championships tomorrow when he competes in the high jump final starting at 5:10 p.m., before attempting to qualify for the 110-meter high hurdles final when the prelims are run starting at 7:35 p.m.

Thomas is tied for second nationally in the high jump with his school-record leap of 7’0.5” to win the New England Championship earlier this month after earning All-America honors in the event during the indoor season. He is ranked eighth nationally in the 110-meter hurdles with his school-record winning time of 14.32-seconds at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships last month.
