Softball Celebrates Team IMPACT Day With a Pair of Wins Over URI

EASTON, Mass. (April 10, 2024) – The Stonehill College Softball celebrated its Team IMPACT teammate, Maggie Mendonca, and her family at Fr. Gartland on Wednesday, winning two games against the University of Rhode Island in non-conference play.

GAME 1 - Stonehill 9 (8-24, 2-13), Rhode Island 1 (7-28, 4-8 A10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game began with both teams locked in a tight pitching duel, as neither side managed to score in the first two innings.

Stonehill broke the deadlock in the bottom of the third inning with a flurry of hits as freshman Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) drove in the first two runs with a single through the left side. Two more runs scored in the inning thanks to a fielding miscue by the Rams as the Skyhawks led 4-0 after the third.

Junior Shannon Conte (Amesbury, Mass.) teed off in the fourth inning, blasting a solo home run over the right-field fence. Sophomore Jessica Brill (Natick, Mass.) added another pair of runs in the fourth with a single to left center field with the bases loaded. Stonehill would finish the inning with a total of five runs after another two scored on another error from the Rams.

Rhode Island managed to get on the scoreboard with Vicki Viaclovsky sending a home run to left field, but the Skyhawks closed out the game as freshman Alex Sciaretto (Bristol, Conn.) threw a complete game to secure a 9-1 win in five innings.
