Softball Drops Non-Conference Matchup at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (March 12, 2024) The Stonehill College softball team returned to New England after playing five games in Florida this past weekend, falling to Boston College, 8-0, at the Harrington Athletics Village.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Eagles scored two quick runs in the bottom of the first, drawing a walk with their leadoff hitter before Hannah Slike stepped up to the plated and homered to left center to give BC a 2-0 lead.

After plating a run in the bottom of the second, Boston College hit another homer when Maycee Hilt sent a two-run shot over the center field wall to extend the lead to 5-0 in the third.

BC scored one more run in the third and another two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, securing an 8-0 win in five innings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Boston College starter Addison Jackson pitched all five innings, giving up just two hits and one walk to improve to 3-0 on the season.
  • The freshman duo of Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) and Alexa Hospodar (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) each pitched 2.1 innings as Sullivan faced 16 batters and Hospodar faced 14.
  • Junior Chloe Kelly (East Bridgewater, Mass.) went 1-2 with a single to keep her batting average at .500 (7-14) on the season.

Stonehill softball travels to Long Island University (10-11, 0-0 NEC) for its first Northeast Conference matchup of the season with three games at the LIU Softball complex in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Skyhawks and Sharks will have a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 followed by one game at noon the next day.
