EASTON, Mass. (September 2, 2023) – The University of New Hampshire, ranked No. 11 in NCAA I FCS by Stats Perform and No. 12 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) preseason poll, started fast with four first quarter scores on its way to a 51-17 triumph over Stonehill College in a non-conference football matchup on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Senior running back Dylan Laube scored three consecutive New Hampshire touchdowns three different ways in the opening quarter, while junior quarterback Max Brosmer completed 19-of-25 passes for five touchdowns to lead the Wildcats. Laube's three-straight touchdowns in the opening frame came with a 58-yard return of a partially blocked punt, 23-yard reception from Brosmer and 11-yard touchdown rush as UNH turned a 6-0 lead into a 27-0 advantage after a quarter of play. Laube finished with 229 all-purpose yards, rushing the ball 16 times for 89 yards, to go with 31 yards on two receptions and 109 total return yards.

Junior Ryan Toscano paced the UNH defense with five tackles (two solo), including 1.0 tackles for loss.

Senior running back Jermaine Corbett scored two touchdowns for Stonehill, finishing with 92 all-purpose yards, including 24 carries for 66 yards and the two scores. Junior wide receiver Chris Domercant caught four passes for 71 yards, while classmate Ashur Carraha completed 15-of-19 passes for 178 yards.

Senior Sam Murphy paced the Stonehill defense with six tackles (three solo), including 2.0 for a loss of three yards, with 1.0 sacks for a loss of one and a pass breakup. Sophomore Jahnez Williams finished with a career and game-high seven stops (four solo), while sophomore PJ Williams chipped in with a sack for a loss of five as part of a five-tackle day.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill's defense got off to a great start, forcing a three and out on New Hampshire's opening drive, but a miscue on the ensuing Wildcats punt was recovered by junior Caleb Mead on the Skyhawks 22-yard line and would prove to flip the field position for the remainder of the quarter with the hosts two turnovers in the quarter.
  • UNH struck just four plays later with Brosmer connecting with freshman tight end Colby Ramshaw for a two-yard touchdown toss to grab a lead the Wildcats could not relinquish.
  • Sophomore Zach Garron got a piece of a Stonehill punt after going three and out on its next drive and Laube collected the kick on the UNH 42-yard line and ran 58 yards for his first score less than three minutes into the game.

After another Stonehill three an out, Laube scored on a 23-yard catch with seven minutes in the quarter, before adding an 11-yard touchdown scamper with 3:40 to play in the opening frame.
  • Brosmer opened the second quarter with a 69-yard touchdown pass to postgrad Heron Maurisseau to stretch the UNH lead to 34-0.
  • Stonehill got on the scoreboard when Corbett capped a ten play, 80-yard, drive with a two-yard touchdown plunge with 5:21 left in the first half.
  • The two teams traded field goals from there as UNH sophomore Nick Mazzie drilled a 47-yard try and then senior Perry Shelbred closed out the first half scoring with a 23-yard kick.
  • UNH added two more Brosmer touchdown passes in the third quarter, before Corbett capped the scoring on the day for both teams with a 23-yard touchdown carry 2:06 into the fourth quarter.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill and New Hampshire were meeting for the first time in the two program's history. The No. 11/12 NCAA I FCS program marks the highest ranked opponent for the Skyhawks in their program's history in just its tenth game at the Division I level.
  • Corbett's two touchdown carries give him 13 for his career – moving within one of Stonehill's career top ten list.
  • Laube is the first player in W.B. Mason Stadium's 19-year history to score touchdowns by return, rush and reception in a game.
  • Brosmer's five touchdown passes are just one shy of the W.B. Mason Stadium record set by Stonehill alums Cruz Parsons, '09 and Matt Foltz, '18.
  • New Hampshire's 51 points match the highest point total by a Stonehill opponent at W.B. Mason Stadium set by LIU in 2016.
