Women's Cross Country Finishes Fall at NCAA II Championships

SAINT LEO, Fla. (November 20, 2021) - Stonehill College, ranked No. 2 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, capped its season with a 31st place team finish at the 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, hosted by Saint Leo University, under hot and humid conditions at The Abbey Course in Saint Leo, Florida, this morning.

The Details

  • Adams State University took the team title by 20 points over Grand Valley State University (59-79), with Augustana (S.D.) University (118) third. The Grizzlies overcame Grand Valley sweeping the top two positions in the women's individual six-kilometer race, with junior Hannah Becker taking the women's individual title in 20:22.0.
  • Stonehill was second among the three East Region team qualifiers in 31st place with 762 points, with Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA East Region champions American International College (643) in 28th overall. Roberts Wesleyan College (887) finished 33rd.
  • Senior Rebecca Erhard again led the way for Stonehill in 157th place out of 256 entries overall with a time of 22:36.9 – good for sixth among the East Region runners at the Championships. She betters her best nationals placement by six spots after placing 143rd (24:51.0) in 2018.
  • Freshman Emma Lawrence turned in a strong effort in her first NCAA Championships appearance, taking 157th overall in 22:54.0.
  • Junior Victoria Lombardi followed in 169th in her first nationals appearance with a time of 23:04.1. Fifth-year Jillian Howard finished 195th (23:25.3), freshman Caitlin Swanson 208th (23:38.4) and junior Elizabeth Marshall 219th (23:55.1) to round out the Skyhawks finishers.
