Boen brings total to 58 Coach of the Year awards

EASTON, Mass. (November 15, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's cross country's head coach Karen Boen has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Coach of the Year, as announced by the league on Thursday.
Boen, who is in her 22nd season in charge of the Skyhawks, has totaled 58 Coach of the Year awards, 16 of them being NE10 Women's Coach of the Year honors. She has led the women's team to their 17th NE10 title and 10th-straight crown this fall. The women look to continue the streak with its 19th-straight trip to the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship by competing in the East Regional Championship this Saturday at Bethpage State Park in Bethpage, New York, hosted by Adelphi University.
The women's team won its 17th NE10 Championship two weekends ago in dominating fashion, as nine of the 14 women earned All-Conference honors. The Skyhawks were able to ease into their 10th-straight Championship with their seven runners finishing in the top-16, totaling 20 points, while Merrimack College came in second with 89 points and four All-Conference nods. Junior Anna Lastra captured the program's fourth-straight individual title, which Nicole Borofski '17 won back-to-back years and Emily Knox '18 won it last year. This is the fourth time in Conference history that a school has won the individual title four-straight years, with Springfield College leading the way with six-straight individual titles spanning from 1987-92.

Last year, Boen saw the fourth year that she tallied both the men's and women's Coach of the Year Award in cross country, the other years include: 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2004. Boen's success extends beyond the conference level, however, she has also collected East Region Coach of the Year Honors for all six teams. Overall, her resume includes 58 NE10 and East Region Coach of the Year Awards, 35 NE10 Championships, and 18 East Region Championships across the six teams she is in charge of. Boen, who was inducted into the Stonehill Hall of Fame in 2014, has overseen the development of 51 All-Americans and four fellow Hall of Fame inductees.
Stonehill travels to Bethpage, New York to compete on Saturday, November 17 for the NCAA Division II Cross Country East Regional Championship at Bethpage State Park, hosted by Adelphi University. The men will kick off the event with a noon start time, while the women will run at 1:15 p.m.
