Thornton earns her third consecutive Field Rookie of the Week award and her fourth of the season following her performance in the weight throw Saturday afternoon. The freshman launched a 51-03.25 throw that earned third place overall and first among Division II and III competitors. The throw was Thornton's second longest of her career and fell just short of the school record (52-05.50) that she posted January 19 at the URI Sorlien Invitational. Thornton also recorded a 33-08.00 throw in the shot put event, placing 17th.

Gray placed in two events for the Skyhawks on Saturday. The sprinter earned second place in the 400-meter race with a time of 58.57 seconds. Gray finished just .05 seconds behind teammate Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine), who claimed first place in the event. Gray also placed first with the 4x400 relay team on Saturday. The freshman posted a 59.5 first leg on the way to a team time of 4:01.14, edging out the host Rhode Island squad by a mere .41 seconds.

This was the first individual award for Gray, who had previously been honored by the NE-10 three times with the 4x400 relay team. Gray, Thornton and the rest of the women's track and field team return to action Friday when the travel to Boston University for the BU Valentine's Invitational. The team will also compete Saturday at the Tufts Stampede event hosted by Tufts University.
