Stonehill Defeats Assumption, 9-0

Skyhawks roll to 16th-straight NE-10 regular season win

EASTON, Mass. (October 7, 2009) - Stonehill College closed out its fall schedule with its 16th-straight Northeast-10 Conference regular season victory with a 9-0 decision over Assumption College in women's tennis action in Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Sophomores Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and freshmen Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) and Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) were all double-winners to lead Stonehill to the win.

Toegemann posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles after combining with senior Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) for an 8-2 win at first doubles. White recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles after teaming up with sophomore Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) for an 8-6 win at second doubles.

Harrow and Haedrich teamed up for an 8-4 win at third doubles before claiming wins at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. Harrow trailed 5-1 in the second set of her match after winning the first set, 6-4, but rallied for a 7-5 win to seal victory in singles play.

Stonehill (4-0, 4-0 NE-10) will resume its quest for a second-straight Northeast-10 Conference title next spring. Assumption (0-2, 0-1 NE-10) hosts the University of New Haven on Sunday at 1 p.m.
