Rousseau Named NE-10 Player of the Week

Junior guard honored for first time this season, second time in career

EASTON, Mass. (January 25, 2010) - Stonehill College junior guard Emily Rousseau (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Player of the Week by the league office this afternoon.

Rousseau, who earns the award for the first time this season (second career), led Stonehill to a pair of wins last week as the Skyhawks extended their winning streak to eight games. She averaged 17.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals for the week, making 66.7-percent (12-for-18) of her shots from the field, including 5-of-7 (71.4%) three-pointers, while converting 6-of-7 (85.7%) free-throw attempts. Rousseau joins teammate Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass./Cardinal Spellman), who collected the award in back-to-back weeks in late November/early December, as NE-10 Players of the Week honorees for the Skyhawks this season.

Rousseau led Stonehill to a 66-54 win over American International College on Wednesday as she scored 19 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to break open a four-point halftime lead. She made 7-of-12 shots from the field (6-7 second half), including 3-of-5 from three-point range, while converting 6-of-7 free-throws to go with three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Rousseau played just 20 minutes in Saturday's 69-43 triumph at Adelphi University, posting 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, draining both three-point attempts, to go with three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Rousseau is one of three Stonehill players to start all 20 games this season and is averaging 14 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals per contest. She ranks second among NE-10 leaders in three-point shooting, hitting 45.6-percent (31-for-68) of her attempts from beyond the arc as part of 46.4-percent (103-222) shooting from the field overall, while converting 75% (42-56) of her free-throws this season. Rousseau ranks eighth in the NE-10 for scoring, seventh in assists, 12th in free-throw percentage and 15th in field goal percentage. The Skyhawks point guard leads the Conference in assist/turnover ratio, dishing out 89 assists with just 50 turnovers this season (+1.8/gm).

Rousseau has been instrumental during Stonehill's current eight-game winning streak, averaging a team-best 16.9 points per game in the Skyhawks six games in January, shooting 59.7% (40-67) from the field, including a blistering 63.6% (14-22) from beyond the arc, while converting 82.8% (24-29) of her free-throws. She is also averaging 4.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists (just 1.9 turnovers) and 1.7 steals this month as well. Rousseau matched her career-high with 27 points in the Skyhawks 83-72 win over the University of New Haven on January 16. She is shooting 61-percent (22-36) from three-point land over Stonehill's last 11 games dating back to December 5.

Rousseau, who transferred to Stonehill from the University of Maine after her freshman season, enters this week with 899 points in 74 career games played - including her 23 games played (16 starts) at Maine in 2007-08. In 51 career games over two seasons with the Skyhawks, she has 712 points, 229 assists, 188 rebounds and 70 steals. Rousseau earned second team All-Northeast-10 honors last season and was a two-time America East Rookie of the Week at Maine.

Stonehill (16-4, 11-2 NE-10), among teams receiving votes in last week's USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll, is back in action with a pair of games this week. The Skyhawks host Le Moyne College tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m., before visiting The College of Saint Rose on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
