EASTON, Mass. (February 8, 2010) - Stonehill College will host its annual Pink Zone event this Saturday, February 13, during its Northeast-10 Conference basketball doubleheader with Saint Michael's College in Merkert Gymnasium. The women's game tips off at 1:30 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 3:30 p.m.

Stonehill is one of over 1,600 schools and organizations committed to participating in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Pink Zone initiative this month. Pink Zone is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The week set aside for the 2010 event is February 12-21. The WBCA's charity of choice is the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, in partnership with The V Foundation. Last year, over 1,600 teams and organizations participated in Pink Zone and raised over $1.3-million for breast cancer awareness and research.

On Saturday, Stonehill will donate a portion of all tickets and programs sold to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer fund. Fans wearing pink to the games will be admitted free of charge. There will also be several giveaways conducted throughout the afternoon. Prizes include local merchant gift cards, Valentine's Day themed prizes as well as an iPod Touch. Stonehill's women's basketball team will be wearing pink shoe laces and warm-ups.

The women's basketball team (17-7, 12-5 NE-10) was among teams receiving votes in last week's USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II poll and ranked third for the second-straight week in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings released last Wednesday.
