Men's Track & Field Makes Return with Bentley Duel

Skyhawks register 11 event wins in the afternoon in first outdoor meet in nearly two years

EASTON, Mass. (April 11, 2021) – The Stonehill College men's track & field team competed in its first track meet in over 13 months and its first outdoor event in almost two years as it hosted rival Bentley University for a dual meet at W.B. Mason Stadium today. 

Highlights 

  • Stonehill posted 11 event wins on the afternoon, four coming from a freshman class that also produced 11 top five finishes on the day.
  • Junior Nickolas McNamee led a Stonehill sweep of the first three spots in the 1500-meter run, taking first in 4:10.14. Freshman Connor Hughes was second in 4:16.50, while sophomore Andrew Janus took third in 4:28.39.
  • Freshman Aidan Byrne led a Stonehill sweep of the first three places in the 5000-meter run in 15:39.23. Junior Shane Braz was second in 15:41.10, while freshman Ian Cann took third in 16:07.34.
  • Freshman Jayden Germana won the 100-meter dash in 11.21-seconds, with Stonehill taking three of the top five spots. Classmate John Paulhamus was third in 11.44-seconds, while senior Desmond Bernal was fourth in 11.76.
  • Paulhamus won the 200-meter dash for Stonehill in 23.15-seconds, with sophomore Nate Skopas taking fourth in 24.42-seconds and freshman Joseph Cappelletti fifth in 24.43.
  • Freshman Nick Capalbo took first place in the 800-meter run ahead of three Bentley entries in 2:00.33, posting a 56.77-second split over the first 400-meters.
  • Sophomore Cameron Bernard posted a distance of 22-feet, 3.5-inches on his second of six jumps on the afternoon to win the long jump. Senior Michel-Ange Siaba finished second with a distance of 22-feet, 2-inches, while Germanna added a third place finish in this event, clearing 21-00.50 on is sixth and final attempt.
  • Siaba cleared 43-feet, 10-inches to win the triple jump, posting the distance on his first and sixth attempts. Sophomore Sam Anderson was second with a distance of 42-01.50 after placing fourth in the long jump (20-09.75).
  • Senior Ethan Famiano won a head-to-head Stonehill dual in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.53-seconds, against sophomore Jake Dwyer who finished in 16.29-seconds.
  • Junior Jack Bowers took another Stonehill head-to-head hurdles dual, edging freshman Andrew Morin by 0.03-seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. Bowers clocked in at 59.99-seconds, while Morin finished in 1:00.02.

  • Sophomore Daniel Bennett placed second amongst three Bentley entries in the javelin throw, clearing a distance of 150-feet, 5-inches on his second of six throws.
  • Freshman Cody DeAngelo cleared 12-feet, 9.50-inches in the pole vault in his collegiate debut. He did so on his first attempt at that height after topping 12-03.50 on his second attempt.
  • Junior Robert Lisi and sophomore Tyler Thomas went head to head in the hammer throw, with Lisi coming out on top with a distance of 120-feet, 3-inches on his fourth throw. Thomas recorded a distance of 110-09 on his fifth attempt.
  • Lisi finished second on the shot put with a personal-best distance of 39-feet, 2.25-inches, while Thomas was third at 39-01.75. Lisi posted his distance on both his first and sixth throws, while Thomas posted his distance on the sixth attempt.
  • Thomas followed that up with a second-place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 111-feet, 3-inches, while Lisi was third at a personal-best 94-09.

Up Next

Stonehill is scheduled to return to the track next Sunday, when it hosts College of the Holy Cross for another dual meet at W.B. Mason Stadium. The 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, will follow on May 6-7.
