Ringstad Collects Second-Straight NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Fairbanks, Alaska, native honored after posting pair of wins in NE-10 opener

EASTON, Mass. (September 27, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week by the league office this afternoon.

Ringstad's earns the weekly honor again after leading Stonehill to a 9-0 triumph over Franklin Pierce University in its first dual match of the season on Sunday. He was a double-winner for the Skyhawks, starting by teaming up with sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles before rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Franklin Pierce senior Benjamin Brewer at No. 1 singles.

Ringstad is a combined 6-2 in singles and doubles play early in his collegiate career. He is 2-1 for singles after Sunday's match, having reached the round of 16 in the A-championship bracket of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional the week prior. Ringstad and Hyzak are 4-1 as a doubles tandem after Sunday's win, having advanced to the B-doubles semifinals at the ITA East Regional.

Ringstad came to Stonehill following a standout four year career at Monroe Catholic High School in Alaska. He won two-straight Alaska Region IV singles championships and placed third at the Alaska State Championship all four years for the Rams. He also won the singles and doubles championships at the 2011 Yakima (Wash.) Valley Junior Championships this past summer.

Stonehill (1-0, 1-0 NE-10), ranked tenth in the ITA East Regional rankings, is back in action on Saturday when it visits Saint Michael's College for an NE-10 dual match at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks have two schedule changes of note, last week's postponed match with Salve Regina University has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 4, at 4 p.m., while their match this week against Curry College has been canceled.
