Alaimo wins at No. 4 singles for Skyhawks point
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 12, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, opened its annual spring break trip with an 8-1 setback to the University of Indianapolis in men's tennis action at Liberty High School this morning.
Sophomore Trevor Cox (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood), ranked 10th in the ITA Midwest Region singles rankings, led the double-winners for Indianapolis as he posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Stonehill freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) at No. 1 singles after combining with classmate Michael Bradley (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) for an 8-3 decision at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Pete Wilson (Jasper, Ind./Jasper) and junior Preston Swain (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood) were also double-winners for the Greyhounds, starting with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles over Ringstad and sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford). Swain also rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-1 win over Stonehill senior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) at No. 5 singles, while Wilson topped sophomore Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy), 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.
Sophomore Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) picked up the lone point for Stonehill with a 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 comeback win over Indianapolis junior Alex Poe (Anderson, Ind./Frankton) at No. 4 singles.
Stonehill (5-1, 3-0 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow morning when it faces Philadelphia University in a key East Regional clash at Liberty High School at 8 a.m. Indianapolis (9-3, 0-0 GLVC) faces Valparaiso University tomorrow at 8 a.m.
