NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (March 30, 2024) – The Stonehill College baseball team secured its second three-game sweep in its NCAA Division I Era over Northeast Conference opponent Central Connecticut State, 6-2, Saturday afternoon in New Britain, Conn. HOW IT HAPPENED

CCSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning. After graduate student Colby Brouillette doubled down the right field line, Nicol stepped up to the dish and laced the first pitch he saw into center field, scoring Brouillette and giving the Blue Devils an early one-run advantage.

Following the run-scoring single in the top of the first, Haas set down his next seven batters faced to keep the game within striking distance for the Stonehill bats. In the bottom of the third, Parks rewarded his starters' efforts, knotting the game up at one apiece after sending a line drive single back to the CCSU starter.

After an inning-ending double play in the top of the fourth for Stonehill, Gaspar would give the Skyhawks their first lead of the series finale, belting a two-run shot over the left field wall. However, the Blue Devils would cut the deficit to one in the top of the fifth after a base knock off Short's bat made its way through the five-hole, scoring senior Michael Torniero and bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Stonehill.

LeClair continued his solid day at the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, driving an RBI single into left field to score senior Blaine Lidsky, who led off the frame with a single into right center. The first pitch thrown in the bottom of the seventh inning was sent over the right field fence by Ciulla-Hall before a delayed steal attempt by Gaspar allowed redshirt junior Jack Thorbahn to race home and cap off the scoring for the Skyhawks.

In the eighth and ninth innings, an infield double play turned by LeClair and Thorbahn and a pair of punchouts thrown by Haas sealed the 6-2 victory and clinched the Skyhawks' three-game sweep of CCSU.
