BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 2, 2024) – The Stonehill College baseball team took down Florida Atlantic University, 3-2, in game two of its three-game set in Boca Raton, Florida, to force a deciding game three on Sunday. With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 3-3 overall, while the Owls dip to an even 5-5 on the season.

  • Gleason's outing on the bump also marked his second career quality start.
  • Senior Joe Castrichini earned his second save of the season after setting down the final two batters in the ninth for the Skyhawks.
  • Senior Spencer Rich and senior Jalen DeBose highlighted the Owls bats with three hits.
  • Junior Carter Brady accounted for the FAU scoring output with a two-run single in the bottom of the first.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Owls jumped out to an early two-run lead after the opening frame as a bases-loaded single up the middle off the bat of Brady drove home senior classmates Christian Adams and Andrew McKenna.

After registering one hit through the first three innings of play, the Skyhawks opened it up in the top of the fourth, plating three runs and taking a 3-2 lead on the scoreboard. Parks led off the frame, working a full-count walk before being moved over into scoring position after senior Trey Ciulla-Hall was able to reach base via an error in left field.

With two runners aboard and no one out, Thorbahn stepped up to the dish and laced a double into right field, scoring Parks from second and moving Ciulla-Hall over to third. A wild pitch thrown by Beard allowed Ciulla-Hall to cross the plate and Thorbahn to move just 90 feet away from home. Lidsky capitalized on the runner on third as he lifted a sacrifice fly out to left, bringing home Thorbahn and giving Stonehill its first lead of the series.

The Skyhawks pitching staff of Gleason, freshman Zach Brockner, sophomore Jimmy Gilleran, and Castrichini stifled the Owls bats throughout the remainder of the contest. The quartet of pitchers combined to allow just three hits and no runs over the final five innings of play to seal Stonehill's 3-2 victory.
