Women’s Track & Field Opens Season with Dual Meet Against Bentley

Stracqualursi led way with first-place results in discus and shot put

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 11, 2021) – The Stonehill College women's track and field, in its first outdoor meet since the 2019 season, hosted Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University for a dual meet Sunday afternoon.

The Skyhawks saw 10 first-place finishes in the meet, including senior Casey Gannon and junior Krista Stracqualursi earning two top marks.

Highlights:

  • With a throw of 35-feet 8.5-inches in the shot put, Stracqualursi finished first. She also earned first place in the discus with a toss of 113-feet 1-inch.
  • Gannon, who competed in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles took home two first-place finishes. In the 100-meter hurdles, she ran a time of 15.40-seconds and in the 400-meter hurdles, she clocked in a time of 1:06.36.
  • Classmate Isabelle Angelini threw the javelin a mark of 112-feet, as sophomore Kaley Enright, in her first collegiate outdoor meet, measured a distance of 111-feet, 3-inches in the event.
  • Senior pole vaulter, Alexandra Sexton placed first with a height of 10-feet, 6-inches in the event, while sophomore Haley Lightbody, and freshman Abigail Larsson followed with their mark of 10-feet.
  • In the high jump, Stonehill took first, second and third, with senior Kathleen Giusti leading the way with her height of 5-feet, 1.25-inches. Freshmen Cassidy Becker and Tanner Longo followed respectively, with marks of 4-feet, 11.5-inches and 4-feet, 9-inches.
  • Sophomore Victoria Lombardi placed first overall in the 5000-meter run, finishing with a time of 18:36.16, seven seconds faster than her teammate, senior Sophia Anderle, who ran the event in 18:45.09. Senior Jillian Howard placed third with a time of 19:16.45.
  • Senior Claire Mason ran the fastest time in the 1500-meter run, clocking in a 4:55.10 finish, as sophomore Elizabeth Marshall followed with her time of 5:09.14. Stonehill also took home third and fourth, as freshman Caroline Surrette ran a time of 5:09.65, followed by sophomore Erin Johnston, running the event in 5:09.88.
  • Freshman Kaytlin Encarnacao, in her first race with the Purple & White, ran a time of 1:01.42 in the 400-meter run, good for first place, as senior Fiona Jordan finished second with her time of 1:05.79.
  • Encarnacao also competed in the 200-meter run clocking in a time of 27.46-seconds, placing second overall.

Other Performances:

  • Enright also ran a time of 13.43 in the 100-meter finals, good for second place.
  • Larsson, placed 4th in the 200-meter finals, clocking in a time of 28.20-seconds.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Parkinson ran in her first meet as a Skyhawk, finishing sixth in the 1500-meter run with her time of 5:47.32.
  • Sophomore Jillian Callahan placed fifth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19.37.37.
  • Juniors Savanna Macaluso and Abigail Creamer rounded out the top five in the 100-meter hurdles clocking in times of 16.30, good for fourth, and 16.37, good for fifth, respectively.

Up Next:

Stonehill is scheduled to return to the track next Sunday, when it hosts College of the Holy Cross for another dual meet at W.B. Mason Stadium. The 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, will follow on May 6-7.
