Curit & Borofski Set to Compete at NCAA Championships


Senior All-American Maria Curit will compete in the long jump and 800m this weekend in Allendale, Michigan.

EASTON, Mass. (May 20, 2015) – Two members of the Stonehill College women's track & field program are set to compete at the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State University and the West Michigan Sports Commission, at Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium Thursday through Saturday.

Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) and sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) will represent Stonehill in three events over the next three days. Curit has qualified for both the long jump and 800-meter run, while Borofski will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Curit will be competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championship for the second straight year, marking her fourth-straight Track & Field Championship overall, while Borofski makes her first trip to the Outdoor Championships after competing at two cross country national championships as well as the NCAA Indoor Championships for the first time in March.


Sophomore Nicole Borofski will run the 3000m Steeplechase on Thursday.

Curit, a three-time All-American, is seeded 14th in the long jump with her school-record distance of 19-feet, 8-inches, which won the Northeast-10 Conference Championship three weeks ago. The long jump final is scheduled for Thursday at 2:30 p.m., with Curit in the first flight. She is also seeded No. 2 for the 800-meter run, in which she placed seventh at last year's outdoor championship and eighth at the indoor championships in March, with her school-record time of 2:06.85 in placing second at the New England Championships two weeks ago. Curit will run in the second of three preliminary heats on Friday at 6 p.m. The top two in each heat, plus the next three best times will advance to Saturday's 800-meter final at 3:45 p.m.

Borofski, who competed in the 3000-meter run as well as with the 4000-meter distance medley relay team at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships in March, is seeded 13th for the 3000-meter steeplechase with her school-record time 10:32.99 in her second place finish at the New England Championships two weeks ago after winning the NE-10 Championship for the event the week prior (10:47.96). She will run in the second heat of Thursday's preliminaries at 6:40 p.m., with the top four from both heats and the next four fastest times advancing to Friday's final at 7:15 p.m.
