Schultz Earns NE-10 Track Rookie Of The Week Honors

Freshman placed third in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:21.79 at Saturday's NE-10 Championship

EASTON, Mass. (February 24, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Track Rookie of the Week for women's track & field, the league office announced today.

Schultz just missed earning All-Conference honors in the 1-mile run at her first NE-10 Championship meet, as she placed third on Saturday with a time of 5:21.79. The freshman earned six points towards Stonehill's team score with her effort, as the Skyhawks edged out Southern Connecticut State University to capture their second consecutive NE-10 Indoor title and third straight conference track & field championship overall.

Making her season debut with Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team, Schultz ran the lead 1200-meter leg in 3:47 as the Skyhawks finished first and set a meet record with a time of 12:26.73. She is now a two-time All-Conference performer after placing eighth and clocking in at 25:39.7 with Stonehill's cross country team at the NE-10 Championships back in November.

Schultz, who earns this honor for the second consecutive week, is the third Skyhawk freshman to be recognized as NE-10 Track Rookie of the Week this winter, joining classmates Paige Campbell (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) and Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy), who were honored on December 9th and January 27th, respectively.

A 2014 graduate of Billerica Memorial High School in Billerica, Massachusetts, Schultz competed in both cross country and track & field for the Indians. As a junior, she earned All-Merrimack Valley Conference and Lowell Sun All-Star honors for indoor track, before collecting Lowell Sun All-Star accolades for cross country as a senior.

Stonehill, which is ranked second in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Regional computer rankings, will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the New England Championships, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
