Toegemann Named ITA East Region Senior Player of the Year

Narragansett, R.I., native first in program history to earn award
Skyhawks ranked fourth in final ITA East Regional rankings

EASTON, Mass. (May 31, 2012) – Stonehill College senior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II Senior Player of the Year for the East Region the association announced.

Toegemann is the first Stonehill women's tennis player to earn Senior Player of the Year honors from the ITA after helping lead the Skyhawks to the Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship and fourth-straight NCAA Tournament bid. She posted a 26-12 combined record in singles and doubles play this past season, going 11-9 in singles to go with a combined 15-3 doubles clip. Toegemann was 9-3 in NE-10 matches, going 7-7 overall at No. 1 singles and 4-1 at No. 2. She and freshman Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) teamed up to post a 6-1 clip at No. 3 doubles, winning all five NE-10 regular season matches. Toegemann was also 5-0 with sophomore Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) and 3-1 with classmate Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas).

Toegemann, a two-time first team All-Northeast-10 Conference doubles performer, earned the F. Paul Bogan Sportsmanship Award from the NE-10 as a junior. She finished her career with a 43-32 record in singles matches over her career, including a 31-13 NE-10 mark, to go with a 69-11 career doubles clip. Toegemann earned first team All-NE-10 honors at No. 3 doubles with former teammate Chelsea Haedrich as a junior and was a first team honoree at No. 1 doubles her freshman season with Lindsey Herchel. Toegemann has earned NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Roll status multiple semesters before graduating with a degree in psychology at Commencement on May 20. She has also earned NE-10 Player of the Week honors three times over her career, including March 26 of her senior season.

Toegemann, an NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman in 2009, has been part of a Stonehill program which has seen unprecedented success over her four year career. The Skyhawks earned four-straight NCAA Tournament bids, four-straight NE-10 tournament championship appearances and Toegemann was a freshmen on the 2009 squad that won the NE-10 regular season and tournament crowns before reaching the NCAA Division II Tournament's "Sweet 16." She collected NE-10 All-Championship team honors for her efforts in Stonehill's championship run. The Skyhawks posted a combined 74-18 (.804) record, including a 48-3 (.941) mark in NE-10 regular season matches, over her career.

Stonehill (15-6, 12-1 NE-10), ranked fourth in the final ITA East Regional rankings, claimed a share of a sixth Northeast-10 Conference regular season title this past season. The Skyhawks earned a fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh overall before falling to No. 35-ranked Concordia (N.Y.) College 5-3 in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional.
