Skyhawks can clinch share of NE-10 regular season championship with win in regular season finale on Friday

EASTON, Mass. (April 11, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, will have a shot at claiming a share of the Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship after rallying for a key 5-4 triumph over Adelphi University, ranked sixth in the region, in NE-10 women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this evening.

Junior Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) led the way for Stonehill as her thrilling 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 comeback win over Adelphi senior Carolyn Smith (Agua-Dulce, Calif./Quartz Hill) at No. 6 singles clinched the win for the Skyhawks. Harrow also combined with senior Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) for a pivotal 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles, rallying from a 4-1 deficit in the match.

Stonehill carried a 2-1 advantage following doubles play, but dropped the first three singles matches to fall behind 4-2. However, Harrow, senior Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) and freshman Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) swept the bottom three spots to clinch the huge victory.

Lawrence was also a double-winner for Stonehill, teaming up with senior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) for an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles before holding off freshman Joanna Haich (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) for her 11th-straight singles win, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0) at No. 5. Hickey posted a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Adelphi sophomore Gaby Adia (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) at No. 4 singles for the Skyhawks.

Junior Maria Toft (Copenhagen, Denmark), the sixth-ranked player in the East Region, was the lone double-winner for Adelphi as she combined with Haich for a 9-7 decision over Hickey and junior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) at No. 1 doubles.
