Stonehill Drops American International 9-0

White, Martin are double winners as Skyhawks stay perfect in NE-10 competition

EASTON, Mass. (April 4, 2011) – Stonehill College, maintaining the #4 ranking in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional poll, coasted to their fourth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference sweep this evening with a 9-0 decision over American International College.

Junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) each turned in two victories to lead the Skyhawks to 11-1 overall and 7-0 in NE-10 matches. The duo led off with an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles, winning their first match of the season in the top slot and improving to 18-1 overall on the year as one of the NE-10’s most dominant doubles pairings. White also notched an 8-2 win at No. 1 singles, while Martin collected an 8-1 win at No. 3.

Junior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and sophomore Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) swept the only other doubles match of the evening with an 8-0 victory at No. 2. Sophomore Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) recorded an 8-1 victory at No. 2 singles, while juniors Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) and Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) rounded out the singles slate as each cruised to an 8-0 win at Nos. 4 and 5.

Stonehill (11-1, 7-0 NE-10) is back on the court at Easton’s Brown Billone Club tomorrow afternoon to take on Bentley University at 2 p.m., followed by Friday’s matchup of the NE-10’s top teams as the Skyhawks host #29 Southern New Hampshire University on the Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
