Martin Earns Third NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Medway, Mass., native honored after helping Skyhawks to three NE-10 wins

EASTON, Mass. (October 6, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the Northeast-10 Conference for the third time this season, as announced by the league office.

Martin, who has earned the award for the third time in as many possible weeks Stonehill has been in action this fall, led the Skyhawks to three Northeast-10 victories in as many outings last week as she posted a combined 6-0 mark in singles and doubles play. She was 3-0 at both fourth singles and second doubles, combining with junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan), as Stonehill opened its NE-10 schedule with three road wins. Martin dropped just five games in her combined six matches in singles and doubles play.

Martin opened the week with a 6-1, 6-0 singles win at Franklin Pierce after combining with White for an 8-1 doubles win in Stonehill's 9-0 victory. In Saturday's 8-1 win at The College of Saint Rose, she picked up a 6-1, 6-1 singles win after her and White rolled to an 8-0 doubles triumph. Martin closed out the week with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win in a 9-0 win at Le Moyne after teaming up with White for an 8-1 doubles victory.

Martin is now a combined 20-1 in her first collegiate season at Stonehill at the conclusion of the Skyhawks fall season. She has posted an 8-1 singles mark, going 3-0 at fourth singles and 1-0 at No. 5 to go with a 4-1 tournament clip when she advanced to the semifinal round of the B-singles draw at the USTA/ITA Division II East Regionals last month.

Martin and White are a perfect 12-0 in doubles play for Stonehill, collecting doubles titles at both the Salve Regina Grass Court Doubles Championships, hosted by the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., on September 11, and capturing the B-flight doubles title at the USTA/ITA East Regional a week later. The duo is also 4-0 at No. 2 doubles in dual match play.

Stonehill (4-0, 3-0 NE-10), ranked fourth in the ITA Division II East Regional rankings, will return to action for their spring schedule next semester.
