Martin Collects Second-Straight NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Medway, Mass., native selected for second-straight week after claiming B-doubles title at ITA East Regional

EASTON, Mass. (September 24, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the Northeast-10 Conference for the second-straight week, as announced by the league office.

Martin collects her second-straight Rookie of the Week honor from the NE-10 after teaming up with Stonehill junior Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) to capture the B-doubles title at the USTA/ITA Division II East Regional, hosted by Chestnut Hill University and Philadelphia University, last weekend. The Skyhawks tandem captured the title with an 8-6 decision over Catalina Echeverry and Sara Pease from Southern New Hampshire University in Monday's final. It marks the second-straight week Martin and White have won a tournament doubles title after teaming up to capture the B-flight bracket the previous weekend at the Salve Regina Grass Court Doubles Invitational, hosted by the International Tennis Hall of Fame, in Newport, R.I.

Martin posted a combined record of 10-1 for the week, including a 5-1 singles mark, while teaming up with White for a 5-0 record. Martin reached the B-singles semifinal at the ITA Regionals and was also a double-winner in Friday's 5-4 victory over Chestnut Hill in Stonehill's first dual match of the year. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles after combining with White for an 8-1 win at second doubles. Martin was edged by sophomore teammate Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit), who went on the claim the B-singles title, in the semifinals of the ITA East Regional.

Martin has posted a combined 13-1 record through the first two weeks of her collegiate career at Stonehill. She and White have yet to drop a match, combining for an 8-0 clip in doubles play, while Martin is 5-1 in singles play to date.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday, September 29, when it visits Franklin Pierce University for its NE-10 opener at 3 p.m.
