Myers Tabbed Women’s Hockey Assistant Coach

Watchorn's former Boston Blades teammate served five years as assistant at Becker

EASTON, Mass. (August 12, 2021) – Stonehill College has named Megan Myers as its first full-time assistant coach for its women's ice hockey program, which is set to open competition in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) in the 2022-23 academic year. The announcement was made today by the program's inaugural head coach Tara Watchorn, and confirmed by Director of Athletics Dean O'Keefe, '94.

"I am thrilled to welcome Megan Myers as a part of our inaugural coaching staff," said Watchorn. "She is a great addition to our program and will be integral in helping to recruit and build the culture that we are looking for here at Stonehill. Megan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her days as both an athlete and coach at some of the highest levels. Her spirit, passion and energy are unmatched, and she will be a great mentor for the future athletes wearing the Skyhawk uniform."

Myers joins Watchorn's coaching staff at Stonehill after serving five years as an assistant coach at Becker College, located in Worcester, Massachusetts. She assisted coach Eliza Kelley in starting the women's ice hockey program at Becker, which competed at the NCAA Division III level. The Hawks won 29 games over their first five seasons, growing the young program over her tenure that would make Colonial Hockey Conference postseason appearances four of the five years.

"To be named the first assistant coach for the Stonehill women's ice hockey team is a dream come true," said Myers. "I am excited to help our student-athletes grow on and off the ice. It has always been a passion of mine, as a player and coach, to continue the growth of women's hockey and I believe Stonehill is a great place to continue to bring the women's game to new heights. I am looking forward to being a part of the Stonehill family and making history here, building the first ever women's ice hockey program."

Myers, who was a teammate of Watchorn during their playing days for the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL), has been a residence life director for Can/Am Hockey Camps in Lake Placid, New York, during the summer months for the last ten years, and college advisor and skills director with CarShield Hockey in Saint Louis since 2020. CarShield AAA Hockey Club is a USA Hockey and Missouri Hockey sanctioned Tier I hockey club and she worked with girls' camps and clinics for all ages from the U-11 to U-18 level, also assisting players on their individual college hockey recruiting process.

Myers earned her Bachelor of Science degree in therapeutic recreation from Utica College of Syracuse University in 2014. A four-time All-ECAC selection for the Pioneers, she served as captain her senior year and earned CCM All-America honors. Myers finished her collegiate career with 74 goals and 69 assists for 143 points, career totals which still rank first in program history for goals, second in points and fourth for assists.

Myers went on to play five seasons with the Boston Blades, serving as team captain, where she was also a member of the Canadian Women's Hockey League Players' Association (CWHLPA).

Stonehill announced the addition of women's ice hockey and accepted an invitation to the NEWHA, competing at the NCAA National Collegiate level, in December 2019. NEWHA is comprised of NCAA Division I and II institutions in the Northeast, with Stonehill's addition as the seventh member, and its first in the college hockey-rich Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Skyhawks join Franklin Pierce University, Long Island University, Post University, Sacred Heart University, Saint Anselm College and Saint Michael's College. As a conference with NCAA Division I and II members, all NEWHA members must follow NCAA Division I rules.
