Le Moyne Tops Men's Tennis, 7-0

Skyhawks close out regular season and head to 20th NE10 Tournament

DEWITT, N.Y. (April 22, 2021) – Le Moyne College, ranked No. 5 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, capped the regular season with a 7-0 victory over Stonehill College, ranked No. 10 in the East Region, in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Elevate Fitness today. 

Highlights

  • Fifth-year Philip Blythe and senior Tom Jarry led four double-winners on the day for Le Moyne, combining for a win at No. 1 doubles as well as each posting singles wins in the match.
  • Sophomores Felipe Cruz and Ethan Miller also each won in singles and doubles play for Le Moyne.

How it Happened

  • Cruz and Miller at No. 3 doubles and Blythe and Jarry clinched the doubles point for Le Moyne with the victories.
  • Blythe also picked up a singles point for Le Moyne when Stonehill junior Vincent Huynh was forced to retire in the second set.
  • Senior Jared Howard defeated Stonehill sophomore Christian Duffy at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Jarry, ranked No. 8 in the latest Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against Stonehill senior Russell White.
  • Sophomore Kacper Piekarek added a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Stonehill sophomore Luke Nickerson at No. 4 singles.
  • Cruz and Miller followed with pro-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for Le Moyne, respectively.

Noteworthy

  • Le Moyne clinched the NE10 regular season championship and finished off an undefeated regular season with the win.
  • Stonehill will be making its 20th NE10 Tournament appearance on Saturday, having reached the last three NE10 Tournaments held.
  • Eight of Stonehill's nine matches this season have been against team's ranked in the Oracle/ITA Division II East Region rankings.

Stonehill (1-8, 1-8 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it opens postseason play in the NE10 Tournament with a first round match at No. 3 Franklin Pierce University, ranked No. 7 in the region, at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks will be making a third-straight appearance in the NE10 Tournament and their 20th appearance overall. Le Moyne (8-0, 8-0 NE10) will be the top seed for the NE10 Tournament, earning a first round bye, and will host a semifinal match on Tuesday, April 27, against the winner of Saturday's first round match between No. 5 Bentley University and No. 4 Adelphi University.
