Saint Michael’s College Tops Ice Hockey, 4-2

Skyhawks will be making their 19th appearance in the NE10 Tournament following a two-year hiatus 

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vermont (February 21, 2020) The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell to Saint Michael's College, 4-2, in Northeast-10 Conference play on Friday night at Cairns Arena. The Skyhawks clinched a spot in the NE10 Tournament and will be making their return after a two-year hiatus.

By the Numbers:

  • Stonehill's (11-11-4, 8-6-3 NE10) Cameron Wright and Mike Seoane tallied the goals. Mike Seibold, Jack Hall, John Peloso, and Zachary Frament each recorded an assist.
  • Senior goaltender Matthew Schoen tallied 24 saves in the game.  
  • Saint Michael's College (15-8-2, 11-5-1 NE10) saw Thomas Flack with two goals and one assist, while Paul McAuliffe and Ethan Hendrickson notched a goal each. Sel Narby tallied two assists, while Flack, Noah Muller, Matt Egan, Cameron Stewart, and Andrew Olevitz notched a helper each.     
  • Tim Decker earned the win with 34 saves in the net.
  • The Skyhawks outshot the Purple Knights 36-28, as Saint Michael's capitalized on 2-of-5 power play opportunities and Stonehill went 1-for-5.  

How It Happened:

  • Stonehill held the shot advantage after the first period, 13-8, as neither team was able to put a score on the board.
  • In the six minute mark, Seibold sent a pass from the left circle to in front of the net, as Wright tipped in his 16th goal of the season and 39th of his career at 5:34 in the second period. Stonehill had one power play opportunity, while Saint Michael's had two in the second frame, as neither were able to put another tally on the board.
  • Early in the third period, Narby stretched to send the puck to Hendrickson who was at the left circle. Hendrickson found the open slot and Flack gathered the loose puck and shot it glove side for the equalizer at 1:27.
  • Stonehill's Seoane was able to tip it into the slot at 12:06 for another one-goal advantage, as he scored his 10th goal of the season and 11th of his career. With 12 seconds left on power play, Frament tried one more time as he sent it in from the right circle and Seoane buried his third power play goal.
  • Hendrickson tied the game up once more with a tally at 13:32 in the third frame with assists from Stewart and Flack.

    The Purple Knights then scored two goals in 29 seconds as McAuliffe and Flack extended Saint Michael's lead to two, each with a power play goal. McAuliffe sent in his shot from the right circle for a goal at 17:11, while Flack scored his second goal of the season at 17:40.

Outside the Glass:

  • Stonehill will be making their 19th appearance in the NE10 Tournament after a two-year hiatus. The semifinal round will begin on Saturday, February 29 as the Skyhawks await their opponent.
