Schoen fends off the Eagles with 32 saves

BRAINTREE, Massachusetts (February 14, 2020) The Stonehill College ice hockey team scored three goals in the third period to take a 4-1 win over Northeast-10 Conference foe Post University Friday night at Thayer Sports Center.

By the Numbers:

  • Stonehill's (9-10-4, 6-5-3 NE10) Mike Seoane, John Peloso, Nicholas Godin, and Cameron Wright scored the tallies for the Skyhawks.
  • Seoane recorded an assist for a two-point game, as Brendan Nehmer, Teddy McElaney, and Seth Murray registered two helpers each. Kayser Raei tallied an assist of his own in the Skyhawks' second-straight win.
  • Senior goaltender Matthew Schoen tallied 32 saves in the game.
  • Post University (5-18-2, 1-15-1 NE10) saw John Krapian with the lone goal, while Kaeden Meuer and Nolan Arbuckle notched assists. In net, Joseph McLeod recorded 31 saves.
  • The Skyhawks outshot the Eagles 35-33, as neither team capitalized on power play opportunities, as Stonehill went 0-for-6 and Post went 0-for-5.

How It Happened:

  • In the opening period, Seoane skated the puck from one zone to the next, as he pulled away from a defender and sent the puck past McLeod for his ninth goal of the season and 10th of his career at 2:47 for an early 1-0 lead.
  • After playing the puck around the boards behind the cage, the Eagles found Arbuckle at the point for a one timer that was saved by Schoen, followed by another shot from Meuer saved, ending with Krapian's fourth goal of the season at 9:22 to even the score at one a piece, 1-1.
  • Neither team found the back of the net in the second period as the Eagles pulled away with the shot advantage, 19-15, and 26-25 overall.
  • Just over the five minute mark in the third period, Peloso slid one past McLeod for his seventh goal of the season with assists from Nehmer and Seoane to give the back to Stonehill at 5:10, 2-1.
  • At 8:40 in the third frame, Raei looked for the wrap around, but dumped it to Godin who was in front of the crease to tap it home for a two-goal lead 3-1. This was Godin's fourth goal of the season and eighth of his career.

  • Wright skated in his 100th-career game as he tallied his 15th goal of the season, 38th of his career
Stonehill was able to clear the puck out of their defensive zone and Jack Hall skated it down ice but was tripped last minute by a Post defender calling for a penalty shot. Hall took it over towards the right and slapped the puck at McLeod, who was able to stop the shot at 10:55.
  • Wright collected a loose puck in the defensive zone and played it through the neutral zone battling a defender all the way around the net tricking McLeod as Wright wrapped it around the pipe for his 15th goal of the season and 38th of his career at 13:48 for a three-goal lead, 4-1.

Outside the Glass:

  • Cameron Wright recorded his 100th-career game played in as he scored his 15th goal of the season and his 38th of his career.
  • With the win, Stonehill has pulled even with Franklin Pierce University (13-10-4, 6-6-3 NE10) in fourth place with 15 points in the NE10 standings.
